GET INTO SMALL BOAT SAILING INSTRUCTOR COURSE – Basic Skills
Yachting Western Australia is conducting a Sports Specific Course for Yachting
Australia Get Into Small Boat Sailing Instructor on
Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November 2005 from 8.30am to 5.00pm.
The venue is the SunSmart State Sailing Centre in the grounds of Mounts Bay
Sailing Club. Please bring notebooks, suitable sailing clothing, and your lunch.
Cost of the course is $275 per participant, including GST. The cost includes your
logbook and Yachting Australia Certificate of Competence as a Get Into Small Boat
Sailing (Basic) Instructor.
Payment and documentation listed below must reach the office of Yachting Western
Australia not later than 14 days prior to commencement of the course. Cancellations
up to 7 days prior to commencement receive a full refund. Cancellations within 7
days receive no refund. We require a minimum of 6 participants for a course to
operate. The maximum capacity is 12. Anyone booked on a course which is
cancelled due to lack of numbers can be transferred to the next course, or receive a
full refund.

to me as soon as you can.
Please note that to be issued with your instructor certificate you require the following
competent sailing skills
complete this instructor course
holding either the National Powerboat Handling Certificate or Certificate of
Proficiency in Small Craft Safety - attach a copy to the invoice form
hold a Senior First Aid, including Resuscitation, or equivalent qualification –
attach a copy to the invoice form
Be 18 years of age (an assistant instructor certificate will be issued for under 18
year olds)

Instructor Registration
When you have successfully completed this course, your name will be entered on
the database of instructors, and Yachting Australia will issue your certificate and
send it to you. On a quarterly basis Yachting Australia then invoice new instructors
for the $80 annual registration fee, which includes the premium for the Instructors’
Public Liability ($10,000,000) and Professional Indemnity ($2,000,000) Policy.
Details of these policies are on the Yachting WA website www.wa.yachting.org.au.
After you qualify as an instructor, your name and email address will be listed on the
Yachting Australia database. This is accessible to the public through the YA(I) and
YWA websites, and has two purposes:
- to enable the public and Yachting Australia Training Centres to confirm
that you are currently registered as an instructor
- to enable the public and Yachting Australia Training Centres to find an
instructor for the various National Training Schemes operated by YWA on
behalf of YA(I).
