School Board Approves Campus Name Changes
Members of the New Braunfels ISD Board of Trustees approved renaming several district schools tonight to conform to changing middle school and elementary boundaries. Trustees approved middle school boundaries on January 21, 2008 for the 2008-09 school year. On March 10, 2008, trustees approved elementary school boundaries that created kindergarten through fifth grade configured campuses. Because of these changes, several campuses needed name changes. •OakRun Sixth Grade Center will now be renamed OakRun Middle School to reflect 6th through 7th grades to be housed there next year and 6th through 8th grades the following year (2009-2010). •Schools in the North Attendance Zone – Seele Elementary and Lone Star Elementary will not change, but Lamar Primary will become Lamar Elementary. •Memorial Intermediate will be changed to Memorial Elementary since a recent recommendation of the NBISD Facilities Planning Committee could possibly convert Memorial Primary and Memorial Elementary into a middle school campus in the future. •Memorial Primary will be renamed County Line Elementary. •Memorial Elementary will be renamed Walnut Springs Elementary. Nominations to rename Memorial Primary and Memorial Elementary were collected from March 11 until May 30, 2008. Superintendent Mike Smith said, to be considered, names had to conform to school board policy which states board members will consider submissions which either reflect the name of the residential community of the school, or after a local geographic area or feature, a municipality or a particular place such as a street or development.
