The Bachelor of Applied ‘I chose RMIT because the lecturers present on

appealed to Nicole Keily as the questions I had about the degree and creating
a very comfortable atmosphere that I had not
            it seemed interesting and
                                              experienced when visiting other universities.
            unique.
‘Since beginning this degree I have gained skills
‘There were so many varying in numerous software programs—all of which I
aspects to the study and a have used during my current employment . The
huge range of opportunities knowledge gained from specialised subjects is
available outside of university valuable as well as the ability to work on projects
as well. It was apparent to me independently and as part of a team .
that geomatics was a gateway ‘The highlight of the degree was the major project,
to a vast and diverse industry. which took place in the final year . It gave us the
opportunity to seek out a project that focused
entirely on an area of interest, which in my case was
remote sensing . This made the project fun as well
as an incredibly useful tool in preparing students for
                                              future employment .
‘Another highlight is the friends I have made while at
uni, who are now, incidentally, professional contacts
of mine, and are immeasurable in value .
‘I currently work as a GIS graduate consultant for SKM
in their graduate program . Preparation for work in

work experience with different companies . The
courses, especially the specialised courses towards
the end of the degree, match up perfectly with what is
experienced in many spatial industries .
‘My work at SKM primarily involves satellite imagery
with the opportunity to expand into other fields
such as spatial analysis and mapping . Being given
the responsibility to process imagery for clients has
been my greatest achievement to date .
‘My degree has taken me into a field where I get to
work with satellite imagery and do remote sensing
work as well as other spatial work (analysis and
mapping for example) and I am very happy with the
outcome . After completing my graduate program I
plan to work in other spatial fields and hopefully travel .’
