Siemens and SATELCO make 200 South Australian schools IP-capable

As part of a major contract with the State Government of South Australia, the
Siemens Information and Communication Networks Group (ICN) and the South
Australian system house SATELCO have equipped 200 public schools in South
Australia with new, state-of-the-art telecommunications systems from Siemens,
thus giving them access to innovative communication over IP technology.
SATELCO, Siemens' sales and service partner, was responsible for securing the
contract and managing the rollout of the new communication systems across the
entire customer region.

In the 200 schools, spread out across the whole of South Australia covering a territory
of one million square kilometres, 200 Siemens HiPath 3550 real-time IP systems and
around 2000 Siemens optiPoint 500 telephone handsets were installed over the space
of just two months. These replaced old communication equipment, some of which had
been in use for the last 20 years. The contract also envisages maintenance and
upkeep, and, if needed, expansion of the installed solution.

The new real-time IP systems increase the capacity for communication links by 100
percent and at the same time allow for future expansions at minimal cost: Growth of the
communication solution either through an increased number of phones connected to the
system or via networking of several schools, for example, via IP, can then be achieved
with little extra effort.
