West Sound Corinthian Yacht Club is a nonprofit corporation, registered with the State of Washington, established for the purpose of promoting yacht racing, cruising, and social activities. Membership is open to all persons who desire to take an active part in Club Activities. Two types of membership are available: Voting Membership: Open to anyone 18 years of age or older and their families who own interest in a yacht*. (Voting Members are not automatically reclassified upon liquidating their interest in a yacht.) A Distant Cruiser is a voting member whose yacht will be 500 miles or more from the Seattle area for at least 9 months of the year. Associate Membership: Open to anyone who has an interest in sailing but does not own interest in a yacht*. (Associate Members have no voting privileges and may not hold office, but may serve on committees.) *For the purpose of membership type determination, the term “yacht” is defined as a sailboat designed for racing or a boat (sail or power) which has overnight cruising accommodations. CLUB INFORMATION SHEET
CLUB OBJECTIVE - The West Sound Corinthian Yacht Club is a nonprofit corporation that was organized and registered with the State Of Washington Department Of State in December 1981. The objective of the Club is to encourage informal sailing, cruising, and racing for club members, and to promote camaraderie among those who share these interests. Membership is open to any person who has an interest in sailing, regardless of whether they own a boat EXECUTIVE BOARD - The Club’s Executive Board Members are elected annually by the general membership and
serve one year terms beginning on January 1st. The Board meets once each month to execute routine club business and facilitate the long range planning of future club activities. Board Members for 2008 are as follows:

MEMBERSHIP TYPE AND STATUS - The Club offers three types of membership, Voting, Voting Distant Cruiser, and Associate (refer to Membership Application), which are open to both men and women. (Membership is extended to a member’s spouse at no additional fee/dues). All members enjoy equal membership status, within each of the membership categories. All members are expected to participate in club activities. Voting Members are expected to express their views (and vote if applicable) on matters placed before them, and are encouraged to hold office. MEETINGS - The Club does not have a Club House, so there are no meetings or work parties on shore to take time that
could be spent sailing. There are two, scheduled, General Membership Meetings each year, to address business that requires membership approval (e.g. election of new officers for the coming year, amendment of bylaws, etc.). One is combined with the Summer Picnic and the other with the Christmas Party.
NEWS LETTER - The Club publishes a news letter about every two months to keep members apprised of club business
and coming events, what the Executive Board is up to, and other information as may be deemed appropriate. There is a standing solicitation for short articles from members on racing, cruising, or any subject related to owning a yacht. The newsletter also has room for ads on boats, or boat equipment for sale.

CRUISES AND OTHER SOCIAL ACTIVITIES - The Club sponsors at least five cruises each year, normally originating at the Port Orchard Marina breakwater. Destinations are at the discretion of the Cruise Sponsor (member volunteer). Members are also encouraged to organize impromptu cruises with friends.

RACES - The Club sponsors several races each year, one of which is part of the West Sound Sailing Association (WSSA) Series. Competition in WSSA racers is open to members of any yacht club that has PIYA affiliation. The Commodore’s Cup is open to WSCYC Skippers only. The remaining races are open to anyone with a sailboat and sportsman like conduct.
