                  NEW Carers to Coaches
            NEW Blind Sports Swimming
Art exhibition at Gasworks Arts Park
Places still available in Stitched Up!
       Welcome to the Spring newsletter
The Sports Development Officer has been busy planning some great new
initiatives at JCAAA. One of these is a unique program called “Carers to
Coaches”, which aims to provide basic skills and knowledge about
specific sports to people who care for someone with a disability who may
be interested in playing those sports.

I am also pleased to announce that Get Into Bayside is back after a long
hiatus. The program will now run from the Brighton Recreational Centre
and JCAAA is excited about the new partnership.

The underage dance parties are moving to the Peterson Youth Centre in
Highett. The centre is fully accessible and much cosier than the previous
    one in Beaumaris.

JCAAA is holding an exhibition of art produced by participants of its
Holiday Arts program. The exhibition will be held at Gasworks Arts Park
and then move to the City of Stonnington Town Halls. It will coincide with
the International Day of People with Disability.

There are still vacancies in the new drama program at Red Stitch Theatre
in St Kilda. This is a unique opportunity to participate in a program in a
real working theatre and with real working actors.

Finally, I will be going on maternity leave before the Summer edition
comes out, so I’d like to take this opportunity to wish my replacement all
the best in leading the JCAAA team into 2010.

JCAAA, Blind Sports and Swimming Victoria are off the blocks!

Do you have low or no vision and want to learn to swim or be
reintroduced to the water? JCAAA, Blind Sports and Swimming
Victoria are offering a new program starting Term 4.

We hope to provide two types of classes; one for those who want to
learn how to swim or be reintroduced to the water, and the other for
those who would like to improve their stroke technique and skills
within a club environment.

In order to make this possible, we need people who would like to
volunteer their time as mentors and guides in and around the water.
This will assist coaches and help participants ease into the program.
Full training will be provided.

The program is looking to start in October so call Tim at JCAAA
on 9209 6552 if you are interested.
