									GREEK IBBY AWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS
FOR CHILDREN’S LITERATURE

The Circle of Greek Children’s Book/Greek Section of IBBY distributes yearly the
following literary awards:
(a) to three categories of Greek children’s books published the previous year:
    i.      for younger children
    ii.     for intermediate readers
    iii. for older children and young adults
(b) to a Greek children’s book published the previous year for its illustrations.
   The awards under (a) and (b) are accompanied by a varying sum of money, a
   diploma, and also (since 1999) a medal. Sponsors are cultural institutions or
   private donors.
(c) to one or two Greek children’s book personalities for the whole body of their work
    of for their lifelong services to the promotion of Greek children’s literature. The
    award has been named after the renowned Greek children’s book writer Penelope
    Delta (1874-1941). This award is only a diploma.

The above awards were established in 1988. In earlier years (from 1969, year of the
Section’s establishment, up to 1987), the Greek Section of IBBY used to distributed
children’s literature awards to manuscripts entering anonymously its annual
competitions.
