HALF-DAY TOUR TO LISBON
You will drive along mosaic paved streets through this remarkable city built nearly 2.500
years ago, passing buildings dating from the 18th Century. The first stop will be high above
the city at the Castle of Saint George, an 8th Century fortress from whose ramparts you can
enjoy a superb view of the old boroughs and the River Tagus.

picturesque flavor of an old and popular residential area; a unique sight of narrow streets,
friendly people and 16th Century buildings.

The tour will continue on to Lisbon’s historic borough of Belém where you will visit the Royal
Coach Museum which contains the largest and most important collection of carriages in the
world dating from the 17th to 19th Centuries.

You will also visit the Monastery of the Jerónimos (Hieronymite Monks) built in 1502; the
finest example of the Gothic-Naturalist (the ambient decoration named "Manueline") and the
splendid church and main altar in the Gothic Renaissance style.

Finally, you will drive along the River Tagus’ left bank stopping by the Tower of Belém, a 16th
Century fortress, and the Monument to the Sea Discoveries before returning to your hotel.

HALF DAY TOUR TO ARRÁBIDA AND SESIMBRA
Heading South of Lisbon and crossing the Bridge 25th April over the River Tagus and
continuing by the auto-route to Azeitão, you will visit the wine-cellars of José Maria da
Fonseca (JMS), the producers of Lancer's Moscatel and many other quality wines. Visitors
are invited to sample the local specialties.

Continuing on to Sesimbra, a famous fishing center with the traditional fishing boats moored
in the jetty famous for its famous Sword and Marlin fishing. All streets in Sesimbra lead to
the lovely beach with calm waters where you can watch the heavy nets being pulled to the
golden shores.

From Sesimbra the tour proceeds with a scenic drive by the coastal road along the Arrábida
Mountain, a preserved Natural Park due to its unique vegetation within Europe. From here
you can enjoy a stunning view over the mouth of the River Sado and the Atlantic Ocean.

Return to Lisbon, and your hotel, driving through the towns of Setúbal and Palmela.

FULL DAY TOUR TO ÉVORA AND MONSARAZ
Departure by the Bridge 25th April over the River Tagus passing by Montemor and on to
Évora. Classified as a "Museum Town and World Heritage Site" by UNESCO in 1986, Évora
was first known by the Celts as Ebora, by the first Roman settlers as Ebora Cerealis and in
27BC as Liberitas Julia. In the suburbs of Évora there are cromlechs, menirs and dolmens as
well as the remains from the Neolithic 3.500 BC.

In Medieval times the town held the courts of the Portuguese Kings of the 1st dynasty
(Afonsina) since 1165 and of the 2nd dynasty (Avis) up to 1559. The Roman-Gothic
Cathedral dating from 1186, the Church of St. Francis built in 1480 with the macabre Chapel
of Bones and the Ruins of the Roman Temple of Diana are some of the places of great
interest that you can visit.

Small streets with Manueline (Gothic-Naturalist) geminated-windows and porticos as well as
the "Moucharabieh" verandahs of Mudejar influence, lead to the Praça do Giraldo, the
meeting point of Évora's inhabitants.

Lunch, if included, will be at a regional restaurant.

The tour will proceed South to Monsaraz for a walking visit to the unusual white-painted
village within the ramparts of the Medieval Castle. The village was conquered by the Arabs in
1167 and donated to the Knights Templar. The main street with Gothic houses, the cistern
and the Town-Hall with the Gothic fresco of the "Earthly Justice" are well worth seeing.

Return to Lisbon driving by olive-tree groves and cork-oak woods.

FULL DAY TOUR TO ÓBIDOS, NAZARÉ, BATALHA AND FÁTIMA
Depart to the Northern auto-route to Óbidos one of the most charming Portuguese villages,
completely enclosed within the ramparts of the Medieval Castle.

You will enter through the 18th Century arch covered in glazed tiles (azulejos)and walk along
narrow cobbled streets with small, bright white houses and beautiful Gothic and Renaissance
churches. The Church of Santa Maria is particularly spectacular and is reminiscent of the
importance of Óbidos past.

Local artisans and craftsmen, still using the old techniques, show their wares in the small
shops along the streets.

The day continues with a tour to Nazaré, the most famous fishing town in Portugal. Among
the brightly colored rowing-boats moored on the beach one may watch the fishing folk bring

                                                6
in the nets. A superb view can be enjoyed from the "Sítio", a belvedere on top of the hill
while in the streets you may observe women still wearing the traditional 7 skirted costumes.

Lunch, if included, will be served at a local restaurant.

You will then proceed to Batalha for a visit to the Monastery of Santa Maria da Victória
celebrating the victory against the Castillians in 1386 in the Battle of Aljubarrota. This
monument, built in 1388, is the most beautiful example of Portuguese Gothic architecture.
The Unfinished Chapels and Cloisters in "Manueline" were added in 1509 the and in 1563 the
Renaissance Chapels and Cloisters.

Moving on to Fátima, the well known Roman Catholic Marian Shrine, you will visit the Basilica
and the Chapel of Apparitions that marks the spot where the 3 shepherd children had the
visions in 1917. Time at leisure for individual activities.

Return to Lisbon by the new auto-route that crosses the provinces of Ribatejo and
Estremadura.

OPORTO
This gracious capital of the north is Portugal’s second-largest city and a thriving industrial
hub, successfully blending commercial efficiency with an atmosphere of unpretentious charm.
Magnificently situated on the great gorge of the River Douro, the granite city (as it is known)
is famous for its striking bridges and much-celebrated Port Wine. Rich from centuries of
trade, it is both a cosmopolitan centre and a city steeped in the historical events of the past.
Oporto offers many unique attractions, most notably the 12th century Sé Cathedral and
splendid São Francisco Church with its gold-encrusted interior. With its narrow streets and
shadowy arches, the ancient Ribeira district was classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage
Site in 1996.

The true home of Port wine lies at Vila Nova de Gaia, on the south side of the Douro. Before
tasting the famous wine, visitors can enjoy a guided tour of the wine lodges, which bear
some of the world’s best-known names such as Taylor’s, Cockburns and Sandeman.

ALGARVE
With a mild year-round climate and 200km of stunning coastline, the Algarve is one of
Europe’s most popular holiday destinations. Its key features include numerous golf courses,
wonderful beaches and arguably the best fish and seafood in the country.

Bordered on two sides by the Atlantic, and with the River Guadiana forming a scenic border
with neighbouring Spain, Portugal’s sunshine region has attracted visitors since the time of
the Phoenicians.

The provincial capital, Faro, is built around a charming harbour at the edge of a wide lagoon.
Its main features include a maritime museum and an impressive 13th century cathedral. The
region is also famous for its many beach resorts dotted along the coast-line, most notably the
exclusive 645-hectare development of Quinta do Lago. Of equal importance is the resort town
of Vilamoura, with its many restaurants, quality hotels and an impressive range of sports
facilities. The quieter Algarve begins west of Lagos, an attractive seaside town famous for its
ancient churches and long, sandy beaches. In Portugal’s south-westernmost corner lies
Sagres, site of Prince Henry’s 15 century school of navigation.

rich, fruity wine of the same name, and blessed with a spectacular volcanic landscape and
subtropical climate, the island boasts more repeat visitors than any other part of Portugal.

Madeira is the pearl of the Atlantic and a floating tropical garden. Its warm air delicately

of the year.

Funchal, the capital is a picturesque port city with a tempting choice of restaurants along its
seaside esplanades. Nowadays, Madeira exports not only its fine wine but also its delicate
handmade lace and embroideries, wickerwork, tropical fruits and exotic flowers such as birds-
of-paradise, flamingo flowers and orchids. An adventurous way to explore this wonderful
island is on guided walk along the “Levadas”- man made irrigation channels which carry
water from high in the mountains down through the many farms to the fields and villages
lying below. If you are feeling more active, you can enjoy golf, tennis and the chance to
scuba dive around underwater caves and wrecks of sunken ships. A thrilling “Toboggan ride”
will sweep you down the mountain from Monte to Funchal. Or why not venture further by
boat or plane for a couple of days to the island of Porto Santo with 8 Kilometers of white sand
beaches. Madeira is everyone’s dream of a tropical oasis.
