 Keys

 An enclosure access key is to be in your possession whenever you are in an
             enclosure.

 There have has been several instances in the past where people are being traded
between work groups. All key transfers between individuals must be through the
             MCR key logger.

 Long term issue keys may be retained for the duration of the shutdown.

 Enclosure access keys should remain on site in a secured area when not in use.

 Daily issued keys from the MCR are to be returned daily.

 If you lose a key contact the MCR immediately. This gives us the best chance to
retrace where the key may have been lost.

 Radiation Safety

 Beam intensity reductions next week will help to reduce residual dose rates in the
beamline enclosures but does not mean we don’t need to worry about radiation
             exposure to workers.

 Any job expecting more than 100 person mrem requires a written ALARA Plan.

        ALARA planning efforts

 Radiation Safety
 Current ALARA estimates project considerable dose to workers.

 It is imperative to follow the ALARA Plans and RWP’s to minimize exposure.

 Task Managers and Crew Leaders are required to have weekly dosimeter reports
turned in to the ESH Department each Monday for the previous week.

AD personnel should use the electronic recording system.

Contractors and other laboratory personnel will need to use the pocket dosimeter
             cards.

 Time, Distance, and Shielding are what can help to minimize your exposure.

 Ensure crews frisk and survey materials when leaving the enclosures.

 Any item Class 2 or higher requires coordination with AD Radiation Safety for
             disposition.

 Executing a successful shutdown requires
       getting our work done safely.

 Historically, the first two weeks of the shutdown are when injuries occur.

 Many of the injuries occur to personnel on loan to AD for the shutdown that
are unfamiliar with the work in accelerator areas.

Friday July 27, 2007 Page 11

 These injuries can be avoided by:

        Planning your work
 Preparing a Hazard Analysis and updating as circumstances warrant
 Getting the correct tool for the job
 Knowing how to use equipment
 Using PPE to protect from injuries
 Paying attention to your work area
        Not taking unnecessary risks
        Recognizing worker fatigue
