Selecting a Fieldsite for Practicum EPC 659C/D
MFT students are free to select from the below listed sites to complete their fieldwork
hours. Students should contact sites directly to learn about the requirements and availability.
Students are responsible for finding their own placements.

*** Comprehensive Site:
 Individual supervision
 Couple, family, relational hours
 Group therapy hours (required for group class)
 Easy to maintain full caseload
 In-service trainings

                                       CSUN Sponsored Sites

The University had three training sites where MFTs can do their field placement; some of these have
“dedicated” practicum sections, which are comprised entirely of students at the placement.

Mitchell Family Counseling Center
    Restricted to Dedicated Students
    Sometimes accepts Mentors for mentoring only (good secondary site)

Family Preservation
   Accepts trainees from dedicated and non-dedicated sites
   Provides reunification services for DCFS families

Valley Trauma Center
    Accepts trainees from dedicated and non-dedicated sites
    Provides services to rape victims in vicinity
    Provides 60 hours specialized training

intense training

***Southern California Counseling Center: Formal Training Site
    Provides individual, live (supervisor observes sessions), and group supervision
    State of the art training in family systems, postmodern, and strength oriented sites.
    Master Workshops with top therapists in field.
    Numerous community outreach programs: schools, gangs, parenting, etc.
      All supervisors have AAMFT Approved Designation (important for seeking
       licensure out of state or pursuing doctoral work in MFT)

    Separate Latino, Postmodern, and Family Therapy training tracks
    Latino track includes live supervision; taught entirely in Spanish
