How can I renew my Study Permit?

1. Print
Print off the Guide and the Application from the CIC website:

2. Complete
Complete each section of the Application Form to Change conditions or Extend Your
Stay in Canada as a Student

3. Collect
Collect all the documents listed on the Document Check-List

4. Pay
Obtain a pink payment form from the YUELI office and pay your fees at any bank in
Canada

OR

Pay on-line at:

5. Review
Review your application and your documents
   Did you complete all the sections?
   Did you make any spelling mistakes?
   Did you collect all the documents that pertain to your application?

6. Courier
Courier your application and documents to:

Case Processing Centre
6212 – 55th Avenue, Unit 101
Vegreville Alberta
T9C 1X5

And then…..wait for your new Study Permit to arrive in the mail.

Permit.

When should I renew my study permit?
Renew your permit at least 30 days before the expiry date.

How long does it take to receive a new study permit?
You can check the standard processing times here

How much does it cost?

What if my Study Permit does not arrive in the standard processing time (it takes
longer than 76 days)?
You can call Citizenship and Immigration Canada, from anywhere in Canada, for free, 1-
888-242-2100 and ask about the status of your application. You may be asked questions
to verify your identity.

What if my new Study Permit does not come in time and my old permit expires?
If you apply for a renewal of your study permit, and the permit expires before you receive
an answer, you can continue to study in Canada under the same conditions until you
receive a decision.


What if my Study Permit expires while I am studying in Canada?
According to the Citizenship and Immigration Guide:
    “You may apply for restoration of status within 90 days after your status as a student has been
    lost. You may only apply if you have failed to comply with one or more of the following
    conditions:
    □ You lost status because you remained in Canada longer than the period authorized for
         your stay (but not longer than 90 days.)

    □    You changed the type of studies, educational institution, location of studies, or times and
         periods of studies, without applying to change these conditions on your study permit.
    It is an offence under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to not comply with the
    conditions that were imposed when your entry into Canada was authorized, or when your
    work or study permit was issued.
    You may voluntarily leave Canada, or you may be subject to an admissibility determination
    or hearing. This could lead to your removal from Canada. You will lose your temporary
    resident status, and any permit you have, if you break one of the conditions of your stay.
    There is no guarantee that your application will be accepted.”

Apply for a new Study Permit immediately. You will be required to pay $200
(‘Restoration of Temporary Resident Status’) as you would be considered ‘out of status’
as your Permit has expired.
