Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible and achieves the impossible. The Third Annual Hayden’s Hope Benefit November 19, 2005 Dear Friends and Family, How quickly another year passes! On this evening of the Third Annual Hayden’s Hope Benefit, we are excited to once again to host a fundraiser for the IFOPA to raise funds for FOP research. Thank you for joining us at the 3rd Annual Hayden’s Hope Fundraiser for FOP Research. Your presence here tonight is so important as it will help to raise funds for finding a cure to this devastating genetic condition. Last year you helped to raise over $150,000 for research. This effort funded three postdoctoral research fellows for the FOP Collaborative Research Laboratory. The FOP lab does ground breaking bone research that will help countless others by providing in sights into such common bone related disorders as arthritis, osteoporosis, some heart valve disorders, certain spinal cord injuries, paralysis, hip replacement, fracture treatment and more. FOP research is funded 85% by family fundraising and 15% from NIH (Nat’l Institute of Health). Each researcher at the lab knows what family fundraiser helps to support his or her salary. This close bond is unique to FOP families and their researchers. Hope is a theme in the Pheif household. Everyday we are hopeful for Hayden’s health, for the FOP community and for the FOP laboratory that they receive enough funding to continue on their awesome journey to find the cause and create a cure for this mysterious and unrelenting disease. Thank you for joining us in our quest. Sincerely, The Pheif Family John, Megan, Hayden and Elsa www.haydenshope.com Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible and achieves the impossible. The Third Annual Hayden’s Hope Benefit Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (F.O.P.) F.O.P. is a rare genetic disorder in which bones form in the muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues. Bridges of extra bone form across the joints in characteristic patterns, progressively restricting movement. F.O.P. is a disease in which the body not only produces too much bone, but an extra skeleton that immobilizes the joints of the body. As of today, there are only approximately 200 people in the United States and 500 people worldwide that have been definitively diagnosed with this rare condition. The I.F.O.P.A. The International FOP Association was established in 1988. The IFOPA is a non-profit organization that supports education, communication and medical research. Thanks to the IFOPA and the research it sponsors, people with FOP have hope that the future will bring earlier diagnosis, effective treatments, and eventually, a cure. More information on the IFOPA and FOP can be found that the International FOP Association’s website at www.ifopa.org. F.O.P. Research The F.O.P. Collaborative Research Lab was established in 1989 by Dr. Frederick Kaplan and Dr. Michael Zasloff at the University of Pennsylvania. There research is coordinated with physicians and scientists throughout the world to find a treatment and cure for F.O.P. The ground-breaking bone research performed at the FOP Lab will help countless others by providing insights into such common bone related disorders as arthritis, osteoporosis, some heart valve disorders, certain spinal cord injuries, paralysis and more. The entire research team sees its work as a mission not just a profession. Funding for Research FOP research is funded by only four sources; 85% family fundraising (36% IFOPA, such as from this fundraiser, 37% Ian Cali Fund and 12% Whitney Weldon FOP Fund) and 15% from the National Institute of Health. Each researcher at the lab knows what family fundraiser helps to support his or her salary. This close bond is unique to FOP families and their researchers. The Third Annual Hayden’s Hope Benefit Wine & Spirits Two Bottles of Benziger Wine "Our family's goal is to grow grapes and make wines with a unique sense of place. We believe this is best achieved through Biodynamic winemaking and farming. Biodynamics integrates the vineyard with its surrounding ecology, enlivening and increasing the intensity of the living forces that surround a vine above and below the ground. Over time, the vine and environment intertwine and become one. This is the start of the French concept of terroir."- Mike Benziger Donated by: Bart Hansen & Benziger Winery Value: $120 Magnum of Dutcher Crossing Taylor's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon This exceptional reserve wine is made primarily from hand selected pickings of cabernet sauvignon and syrah grapes from Taylor Vineyard, in the Heart of Dry Creek Valley Donated by: Sandra & Don Olsen Value: $80 Two Bottles Sauvignon Blanc Semillon from Napa’s Oro Puro Oro Puro vineyards produces 70 case of late harvest Sauvignon blanc/Semillon Dessert Wine on our small vineyard at the southern end of the Silverado Trail.
