Preamble

The Awards Committee recommends the award of the College's own medals and prizes.
These are considered upon the receipt of nominations. The Committee is only concerned
with honorific awards, and is not involved in decisions about the allocation of research and
training awards that have monetary value, or in recommending named lecturers.

A list of the awards considered by the Awards Committee are shown on page 3 and listed
under “Awards Hierarchy” on the website.



                                           Terms of Reference

Objectives

To recommend a RACS Award recipient to Council.


Duties and Responsibilities
1.      To receive and consider nominations for the awarding of specific College awards. (see
        attached list)
2.       To recommend to Council individuals for RACS awards.
3.       To encourage nominations for RACS awards.
4.      To conduct investigations into the appropriateness of awarding particular awards to
        individuals.
5.       To provide advice to Regional Offices and Fellows on the awards available.

3. Censor-in-Chief
4. Two other members of Council as nominated by the President.
5. Chief Executive Officer

Term of Office

The Committee will comprise the current President, Vice President and Censor-in-Chief. The
two Council members are appointed for a two-year period.


Meetings

The Committee meets three times a year during Council week. The quorum shall be the
President and two other members of the Committee.


Accountability
The Committee is directly accountable to Council.


Reporting

The Committee reports directly to Council and the Committee's proceedings shall be
recorded in minutes as Council determines.

Reviewed at the February, June and October meetings of the Awards Committee and
presented at the Annual Scientific Congress, New Zealand or Regional meeting at the
discretion of the President or the Awards Committee.
