environment. Plant Research International forms part of the Plant Sciences Group and the Business Unit Bioscience has
a long-standing reputation in developing and applying all –omics technologies, with particular focus on metabolomics
and its associated biostatistics and bioinformatics. Metabolomics is a rapidly evolving functional genomics technology
that aims to provide a comprehensive, qualitative and quantitative characterization of the biochemical composition of a
biological sample. Our Plant Metabolomics Platform comprises 3 GC-MS and 1 GC (TOF) MS machines, LC
(QTOF) MS and Orbitrap FTMS machines. We are currently looking for experienced staff to strengthen our GCMS

Job description
We are looking for an experienced technical assistant to join a growing group within the cluster Metabolic Regulation
in the Business Unit Bioscience working on the use of Mass Spectrometry approaches for the analysis of biological
materials. You have relevant practical experience in operating GCMS and/or GC-TOF MS instruments and are able to
independently carry out GCMS-analyses of samples and to report on your results. Relevant experience in instrument
troubleshooting, preparation of plant samples and data analyses would be advantageous. You are flexible and a real team
player, able to work together in an international-oriented research group. Together with two others you will take
responsibility for the efficient running of the GCMS suite and its associated data processing and analysis facilities. The
candidate is able to help develop new GCMS-based analytical methods and help teach others the practicalities of these
new approaches.

We are looking for an enthusiastic technical assistant with
   • a HBO level technician with proven experience in GC(TOF)MS
   • experience with wet – lab, large-scale GCMS analyses
   • experience or affinity with plant metabolism and plant metabolites is an advantage but is not essential
   • proficiency in English and presenting experimental results to a mixed audience
   • a dedicated team player with enthusiasm to bring the technology to the next level

Conditions of employment
Start: from June 2009
Estimated maximum gross salary per month: € 3048
Duration of the contract: initially for a period of 12 months with excellent opportunities for extension pending a
positive performance evaluation.
