This award is presented to the senior male Track and Field team member(s) that
have demonstrated outstanding commitment and performances over their years at San
Ramon Valley High School. This award is named after Bob Frick, who was the 100 yard
state champion in 1935. He is the school record holder in the 100 and 200 meters.

This year’s award goes to Joe Grabenstein. Joe has been a member of the track and field
team for four years. Joe has developed into the leader of the boys sprint group over the
past three years. As a freshman, Joe was the FS 400 meter champion. He has competed
on the varsity team since his sophomore year, and qualified for NCS all three seasons.
Joe will go down as one of the great 400 runners in San Ramon Valley history. Joe is
ranked #4 all time in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.33. He is on the #1,3,5,6,7,8
4x400 relay teams in San Ramon history. Joe has made two consecutive trips to the state
track and field meet with the 4x400 relay team, and looks to add to that this week. Joe is
the athlete I wanted to build the 400 program around when he started four years ago. His
hard work and dedication has brought him to this point in his career. I congratulate him
on an outstanding career and look forward to seeing him continue in the future.
               Kelly Fogarty Award
   2007 Kelly Fogarty
   2008 Marielle Sheppel
   2009 Bailey Weaver
The Kelly Fogarty award, established in 2007, is presented annually to
the most outstanding senior female track and field athlete, who has shown
outstanding commitment and performance over their years at San Ramon.

Kelly Fogarty is the premier sprint athlete in the history of SRVHS.
She is the school record holder in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. She
has run EBAL records of 11.92 in the 100 meter race and 24.49 in the 200
meters. She was a five time EBAL champion in these individual events (100
meters 2005-07 and the 200 meters 2006 and 07). In the relays Kelly was a
part of 4 consecutive EBAL Champions in the 4 x100.

This year, the Kelly Fogarty Award goes to Bailey Weaver. Bailey is a four
year varsity track and field athlete. Bailey is ranked #5 all time in school
history in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.59 and #7 all time in the 200
meter dash with a time of 25.99. Bailey is also ranked #10 all time in girls’
triple jump, with a personal best of 33-5.25. Bailey is arguably the best
relay runner in the history of San Ramon. She is a member of seven top ten
4x100 teams in San Ramon history, including the school and league record
holders. She is also a member of three top ten teams in the 4x400 relay,
including #1 in school history. In 2008, Bailey and her teammates qualified
for the state track and field meet for the first time. Bailey has been the
leader of the girls’ team for the past two seasons, and she will be greatly
missed by everyone. Her constant smile makes it easy to come out and
coach on a daily basis. Good luck to her as she continues her career next
year at UCSD.
        DANA FOSTER AWARD
2001 Alana Lerner
2002 Stefanie Brechtel
2003 John Rowland
2004 Anthony Bradshaw
2005 Mark Miller, Kelly Fogarty
2006 Kelly Fogarty, Ryan Vandersloot
2007 David Nicholas, Marielle Sheppel
2008 Bronze Adams, Bailey Weaver, Gordon Chow
2009 Laura Charbonneau and Kevin Griffith

Dana Foster graduated from San Ramon Valley High School in 1982. She was
arguably the finest all-around track and field athlete ever to attend SRVHS. Dana
currently holds two school records:
        1. Discus: 127’0”
        2. Long Jump: 18’1”
         nd
She is 2 all-time in the 200 meters(25.19), Triple Jump (35’8”) and the shot put (37’8”),
and holds a personal best of 13.15 in the 100 Meters. This award is presented to the
athlete(s) that best exemplify Dana’s all-around talent. This year’s recipients are Laura
Charbonneau and Kevin Griffith.

These athletes were dedicated and team oriented runners who always did what was
necessary for the team. Laura has been competing on the varsity since her freshman year.
Early in her career, she had many spirited races with her older sister Kate. These past
two seasons, Laura has come into her own, culminating with a league championship this
year in the 300 meter hurdles. She so dominated the event this year, that in the league
meet she won by nearly three seconds over her closest competitor. Laura has also
competed in the 400 and 4x400 relays this year. She could often be found catching the
other team in the 4x400 relay. She currently ranks #9 all time in the 300 hurdles, and her
4x400 relay team is ranked #3 all time. Laura is always willing to go the extra mile for
the team. She has served as the perfect model for our young girls hurdlers.

Kevin has been running varsity since he was a freshman. Over the past three years,
Kevin has competed in the 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, and 4x400 relay. This wide range
of events shows that Kevin is a unique talent. He is one of the top 800 meter runners in
the state of California. In many crucial meets this season, Kevin stepped up to gain the
team valuable points in both the 1600 and 3200 meters. His best times in those two
events would easily qualify him for NCS. He is currently the #3 all time 800 meter
runner in San Ramon history, and could very easily be the record holder by the end of the
weekend. He is also the EBAL record holder in the event. He is also a member of the #3,
#6 and #7 4x400 relay teams in San Ramon history.

As the 2009 version of the Track & Field season draws to a close, I get the chance
to reflect upon yet another track and field season. As with most seasons it ends with
mixed feelings; happy that I get to help some young people work toward a goal of a
personal record or a league championship, and sorrow that I will have to wait until next
February to start the process once again!

This season far exceeded the expectations that the coaches had for the Wolves
track and field team. The girls team fought hard until the end but came up short for a
fourth consecutive league championship. Their 6-1 dual meet season still is one of the
best all time. The boys’ team finished 4-3 in fourth place in league, losing only to the
three teams that tied for first in the dual meet season. Both squads had multiple league
championships, as well as qualifiers for NCS. As usual, we had our share of young stars
shine when it counted most. Jane Humphrey and Colin Barber both set freshman records
in the pole vault, and are already very high on the top ten lists in school history. The
frosh/soph boys’ team won the EBAL championship for the fifth consecutive year,
showing the quality depth that has been built in the program. It is sad to finally say
goodbye to seniors like Laura Charbonneau, Bailey Weaver, and Joe Grabenstein. They
have been true leaders on this team, and they will be greatly missed next season.

Thank you to all the supporters of the Track & Field program. We ran the very
best dual meets, all thanks to the parent help and support. A huge thank you to Beth
Weaver for organizing all team functions, including all the pasta feeds, team banquet, and
running the snack shack. All that while at the same time coordinating a wedding and
planning a move to Michigan. Her tireless dedication will be greatly missed next year.
Thanks to Gary Nordine and John Coie for working at the finish line. You guys made our
meets run smoothly.

Sincerely,

Tim Hunter and Tim Stevens and the rest of the Coaches of 2009
