Pet Sitting Policies
Thank you for choosing Hugs at Home Pampered Pet Care Services! Please review the following
Pet sitting policies, designed for the comfort and the safety of your pet and our staff.

Payment:
In most instances, if your scheduled service is three days or less, full payment is expected no later than
three days after services end. For greater than three days, 50% deposit is required at least seven days
prior to beginning service with the balance due the first scheduled day of service. This is at the
discretion of Hugs at Home Pet Care Services and payment in full may be expected prior to
service beginning in some cases.

Times of Arrival:
A specific time of arrival is not guaranteed under most circumstances. We will ask you for your preferred
time(s) and we will do our best to arrive at that time, however we allow a 1-hour interval of time for
arriving at each client's home. This allows for the care of unavoidable and unpredictable circumstances
that may arise at another client's house and/or difficulty in travel.
The exception to this is when medical constraints or medications require a more accurate schedule. For
example, we will arrive as closely as possible to the requested time if your pet is dependent on insulin or
suffers from urinary tract infections.

Service and Visit Length:
Most visits will be from 20 minutes to 40 minutes in length and we will do whatever you would like with
your pets, including feeding, walking, scooping litter boxes, medicating, cleaning up after, etc. Most
importantly - play and cuddling! We will also be happy to water plants, bring in your mail (no P.O. boxes,
please) and newspaper, adjust blinds, lights, TV or radio, or bring in your garbage cans at no extra
charge. Please request any of these services at the initial interview.

Rates:
Please see separate Service Fee Schedule for services and rates. We pride ourselves on our personalized
service for each client. If you need a service that is not listed, please ask! In most cases we will be
willing to customize a service plan to fit your needs.

Extra Charges:

The following extra charges may apply:

There is a $12.00 holiday surcharge per day for visits on the following holidays and occasionally the
preceding or following day: New Year's Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, July 4,
Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Additionally, only Quick Visits will be
scheduled on Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas so that we may spend time
with our families.

There is a surcharge for lengthy visits or travel outside the scope of our regular service area. Please call
for specifics on your situation and a price quote.

There is a clean-up charge for unanticipated accidents/messes that need to be cleaned up. This charge is
$ .50 per minute.

Access to Premises:
Please double check all keys that you give us to make sure they work, especially new ones. We know that
you value the security of your home as much as we do ours, and we take extra precautions to ensure
security is never compromised. Keys are never tagged with addresses or a client’s full name. We
generally identify them with one of your pet’s names and a last initial. For the same reason, alarm and
garage codes are never stored with corresponding addresses and names. Many of our clients prefer that
we keep their key for future use, saving them the trouble of getting one to us for future assignments.
However, if you would prefer to have it back just let us know and we will make arrangements to return it
to you. (Key return trip fee may apply.)

Scheduling Service:
It is recommended that you try and schedule your service at least 7 days in advance. This gives us plenty
of time to coordinate our schedules so that we may give the very best care to all our clients. Frequently
traveled times are Spring Break, Memorial Day, months of June – August, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and
Christmas. If you are scheduling service during one of these times, it is recommended that you contact us
at least 4 weeks in advance. We will try our best to accommodate everyone even if you cannot call in
advance, but these times do book quickly. Any service scheduled or changed less than 72 hours prior to
start date could be subject to $10.00-$25.00 late arrangement fees.

Pet Sitting Arrangements:
We will schedule an appointment to come out to your house in advance of the first visit to see where all
supplies are kept, meet the fur children, get instructions on exactly what you would like done and pick up
the key. There is no charge for this visit. However, if you do not have a key ready at that time, you may
make arrangements to deliver the key to us before services start, or we will be glad to arrange to pick one
up at your convenience for an additional charge of $10.00.

Returning Home Early/Leaving Late:
Please be sure to notify us promptly if you get off to a late start or return home early, thereby not
requiring one or more visits. It is a terrible waste of the pet sitter's time (and additional gas expense) and
the client will still be charged for the visit.

Completion of Job:
Please call us as soon as you return to let us know that you arrived home safely. You may leave a
message on our voice mail anytime (you will not disturb anyone) and we will know that your pets are
being cared for. Additionally, please let us know as soon as possible if you are being delayed and will need
the pet sitter to make additional visits. We will make sure your animals are taken care of, but there could
be a $25.00 emergency visit fee, depending on whether our sitters have already left your area.

Cancellations:
While legitimate cancellations occur, we ask that you notify us as far in advance as possible so that we
may adjust our schedules accordingly. Clients are still responsible for full payment if cancellations
are made while service is still in progress. We ask that cancellations be made at least 48 hours prior
to beginning of service. Cancellations made less than 48 hours prior will be subject to a 25% cancellation
fee. This excludes major holiday and travel seasons. All major holiday and travel seasons will be
subject to a 50% cancellation fee for all cancellations made less than 14 days prior to beginning
of service, and 75% for all cancellations made less than 7 days prior to beginning of service.
These periods are as follows: November 1 thru January 1, March 1 thru April 1, Easter weekend, Memorial
Day thru June 30, and August 1 thru Labor Day.

Temperature and Weather Restrictions:
Even if your pet is normally kept outside 24 hours per day, please make provisions for your pet sitter to
bring them inside in the event of an emergency. We will not leave your animals outside in extreme
weather conditions. Even if temperatures are not expected exceed to normal ranges, storms have been
known to produce strong winds which blow down fences, trees, and create a many other unforeseen
disasters. Please make preparations inside in advance should one of these circumstances occur.

Natural Disasters/States of Emergency:
Planning ahead of time is key to ensuring your pet's safety in the event of serious weather conditions or a
natural disaster. Please be assured that in the event of a natural disaster, Hugs at Home will do more
than our best to ensure the safety of your pet.

Unsecured or Partially Secured Premises:
Hugs at Home is fully insured and bonded: however, if you choose any of the following practices, you will
have no coverage under our insurance and we cannot be held liable for damage or theft. These practices
may also create an unsafe situation for our pet sitters. Please notify us in advance if any such
arrangements are in place and note that if the pet sitter deems the situation unsafe, he/she will not enter
your home. As long as you are comfortable with the risks involved, we will be happy to work with you with
these arrangements in place.

    •     Job sharing with family or friends - If any third party has access to your house while we are pet
        sitting, there is no clear way to determine where liability falls in the event of an accident.

    •    Guests or other family members staying in your house or that have access to your house.

    •    Unlocked households (windows and doors).

    •    Keys left under the mat or in other unsecured area's

    •    Other service companies with access to your house




In the event of Unforeseen Circumstances:
Hugs at Home reserves the right to bring your pet(s) home with us for any remaining pet sitting time if we
feel leaving them in your home will be a risk to their health or safety. We will contact you or your
emergency contact person if the situation arises.

In the event of a Medical Emergency:
Hugs at Home will make every effort to contact you or your emergency contact prior to seeking medical
attention, only if time permits. In extreme or life threatening situations, Hugs at Home will not contact
you until after the situation is under control by a Veterinarian. Any veterinary services incurred will be the
sole responsibility of the owner.

In the event of Death:
This is not ever anticipated, but a possibility, particularly with older pets or sick pets. Hugs at Home would
take your pet to your Veterinarian (in most circumstances) unless you note otherwise, and wait for
instructions from you or your emergency contact.
