Knap-In at the Village       Saturday, April 17            10:00 AM – 4:00 PM           No Fee
Come see people making stone tools the way that native people have for thousands of years. Knapper’s are
welcome to bring tools and stone and join us! Note: Activity of Opening Day event, Discovering Archaeology.

Ashcakes                   Saturday, May 16               3:00 – 4:00 PM       Cost: $3/person, $10/family
Ashcakes may not sound so delicious, but they are simple to make and good to eat. Join us as we make this
campfire treat.

Bow Drill Fire                 Saturday, June 12             1:00 – 2:00 PM        Cost: $3/person, $10/family
The bow and drill are an efficient way to make fire, if you know what to do. Find out what materials are
needed and how to use them to make a fire. Participants are asked to bring a pocketknife, if they have one.

Bow and Arrow                Sunday, August 8               11:00 AM – Noon      Cost: $3/person, $10/family
Learning to use the bow and arrow was an important skill for native people. Every participant will get the
opportunity to learn how to use this significant invention.

Making Pinch Pots             Saturday, August 21            1:00 – 2:00 PM         Cost: $3/person, $10/family
Potters of all ages can make pots with natural clay. Join us as we have fun trying different methods of making
clay pots that you can take home.

Stone Boiling              Sunday, September 12         3:00 – 4:00 PM         Cost: $3/person, $10/family
While we won’t be making soup from stones, we will be exploring this ancient method of cooking by using
hot rocks from the fire.

Smoking Meat                  Saturday, September 25      10:00 AM – Noon        Cost: $3/person, $10/family
Before the age of refrigeration, people used to smoke meat and fish to preserve it. Help us smoke some meat
over an open fire.

Hide Tanning                 Saturday, October 16      10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Cost: $3/person, $10/family
Tanning animal hides was something that people everywhere had to do. Find out the steps in tanning a hide
using simple tools and materials.
