Why the health promotion activity of the workplace is necessary?
Healthy workers make healthy workplaces.
But with the increase in the number of aged workers due to economic growth
and advances in medical science, the increase in stress at work, and the
change in the attitude towards the health and welfare of the workers, the need
for the workplaces’ health promotion is growing ever greater.
※ Korea is one of the fastest aging societies in the world. People aged 65 or
older accounted for 7.2% of the entire population in 2000, and it is expected to
reach 14.3%(aged society) in 2018 and 20.8%(super-aged society) in 2026.
In addition, among the total medical care benefits covered by the Industrial
Accident Compensation Insurance Act, those related to cerebro/cardiovascular
diseases amounted to KRW305 billion in 2007(direct loss per person at
KRW171 million Won) or 9.4% of the total. Also including the indirect expenses
according to Heinrich’s Law, it comes to 10.5 trillion, making continual

How to participate in the program?
The Comprehensive Health Promotion Program is a series of procedures
continually promoted according to the health requirement in the workplace and it
works like this:

Achievements of the program
◎ Reduction in the number of smokers
Quit smoking program was enforced on the smokers of the workplaces
participating in the Health Promotion Program in 2007 who have the risk of
cerebro/cardiovascular diseases. The number of smokers decreased by
※1,715 of 10,289 participants have successfully quit smoking.
◎ Reduction in the obesity rate and improve fitness test results
Fitness test and health consulting were offered in 2007 to re-examine the
workers who had participated the program in 2006. The result showed roughly
24.2% reduction in the number of obese persons and the fitness test score
was improved by roughly 4.0%.
※Obesity reduction: 455 out of 1,882 workers
Test score improvement: 76.076→79.149
◎ Reduction in financial loss with the reduction in cerebro/cardiovascular
As a result of continuous health promotion activities to prevent
cerebro/cardiovascular diseases, the number of workers with
cerebro/cardiovascular diseases have consistently decreased since 2003.
This is contributing to the reduction in financial loss and the securing of the
quality of workers’ life.

To participate in the “Assistance of comprehensive health promotion program”,
please submit a “Health Promotion Program application form” to the applicable
area/branch office of KOSHA.
