How did we jam all this stuff
into sweet little Sackville?
Sits beside a marsh like something Mrs.Tittlemouse
dreamed up. Marshes and ponds. Full of quacks and
honks and a vee line in the water of muskrats going
home for lunch.
Ahh, but there’s something else going on.
All these colourful marsh wiggle characters have
their human equivalents. Musicians, poets, actors,
writers, farmers, sculptors, professors, singers,
dentists, car mechanics, and a bronze statue to a
man who liked the town so much he swept the
street everyday. For some reason, all this attracts
bright and attractive people to Sackville.
They come for a look and stay for a life. Who
knows why? But they arrive and change us all over
again. Maybe it’s because there’s no plague hell of
malls here, just little shops with stuff you can’t get
anywhere else. And a feeling it’s okay to think.
And do creative stuff. There’s always a festival or
recital or bake-off or triathlon or blues concert or
something else going on. Over 300 events a year.
All the darn time. Some people never go home. Shall
it be the Mongolian Throat Singers or that kid with
the magenta hair and the high C above C voice?
Unbelieveable.
Yes, sweet little Sackville has an edge to it. So
wound up in ideas and a sort of kaleidoscopic
collision between serious University dudes and
down to earth locals, that no one knows for sure
where the next inspiring thing is going to come
from. But it’s going to come soon. Serenity in bed
with excitement. That’s sweet little Sackville on
the Marsh. Come on over and join in.
