A Better Understanding of Property Assessment
Peoria County’s Supervisor of Assessments Office is offering two free public work- Public Meetings
shops on the property assessment process. Sometimes when property owners Speakers Bureau
open their tax bill in the spring, they are unhappy with the amount and want to
appeal their assessment. The time to appeal assessments is now, however; not Volunteer Program
when the tax bill arrives. Property owners in Peoria County have 30 days from
the day they receive their assessment notice to appeal, but many homeowners are Programs & Services
unaware of the assessment and appeals process. Therefore, property owners are
encouraged to attend a free workshop on September 1 or September 3 to learn Bel-Wood Nursing Home
the tax cycle process, how property is assessed, and when to file a complaint.
Both workshops are 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in Room 402 of the Peoria County Court-
