Re: Request for Personal reference for [Tenant’s Name]

Please be advised that the above-named has made an application to take a tenancy with me. The
applicant has given your name as someone I might approach for a personal/character reference in
respect of his/her application to rent a property which I own.

To process the application of the said applicant, I request that you complete the information
below, sign and return it in the stamped-addressed envelope provided within ___days of the
receipt of this letter. All information provided will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

I would be grateful if you could confirm if …………………….. (name of applicant) is known to
you, for how long and in what connection.

It would also help me if you could advise whether, in your opinion, and to the best of your
knowledge and belief, (name of applicant) would make a trustworthy, honest and reliable tenant
who will honor his tenancy responsibilities, and in particular if you know of any circumstances
which might suggest this might not be the case.

If you prefer to speak to me personally, my telephone number is ……………………….

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Yours sincerely
