Health Insurance for foreign students
Upon arriving in Warsaw to take up studies at SGH it is advisable to think of the health
insurance which would protect you against financial consequences in the case of any medical
assistance or medication during your stay in Poland. Medical insurance as well as third party
liability insurance and accident insurance is the individual responsibility of each student while
studying at SGH.
Foreign students studying in Poland have few options of securing their health insurance:
1. public insurance which entitles to join the public health insurance system of the National
Health Fund (Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia-NFZ)
2. insurance policy provided by private practices – commercial insurance
3. European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for students from European Union countries
1. Public insurance in public health insurance system of the National Health Fund
(Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia-NFZ)
You can join the public health insurance system of the National Health Fund (NFZ-Narodowy
Fundusz Zdrowia) by purchasing the insurance in the amount of 37,80 PLN/month.
In order to purchase the above mentioned insurance you need to sign an agreement with
NFZ. The documents needed to this are:

Students insured in NFZ are admitted to student health centers for free upon showing present
student’s ID and receipt of payment of insurance premium to NFZ. In order to sign up, you
need to fill in the declaration of choosing the health center and the first contact doctor. For
those residing in Mazovian Province such declaration would mean resignation from the
regional health center in place of residence. Students outside of Mazovian Province have this
advantage, that they use student health centers during the academic year and during holidays
have the option of medical treatment in their own regions.
