SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Veteran trial lawyer Susan Kirkgaard, of counsel to law
firm Bullivant Houser Bailey PC (http://www.bullivant.com/index.aspx) – a leading West Coast law firm – won a
complete defense verdict at trial in the Kern County courts in the matter of Regina Criner vs. Evergreen Healthcare
Service, Inc.; EHC Management, LLC; Arvin, LLC; and Rush Melitti.

Plaintiff alleged violations of the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) in addition to retaliation and wrongful
termination in violation of public policy; intentional infliction of emotional distress; negligence/negligent supervision;
assault; battery; and defamation against Bullivant client Evergreen Health (a long-term care facilities owner).

At trial, the plaintiff asked for more than one million dollars in past/future wages, emotional distress, psychiatric
therapy and medications, past/future costs, punitive damages, and attorney fees all of which were denied at trial by
the jury.

With her demonstrated tenacity working for both employers and employees in local government and corporate
settings, Kirkgaard brings a unique perspective to the firm and a decided advantage to her clients.

“In a law firm that represents corporate clients, Susan knows how to navigate between employers and employees to
ensure an equitable outcome for the injured party,” said Sacramento lawyer and Bullivant board chair Taylor
Florence. That fact hasn’t been lost on her clients: she has won every case she has tried as lead counsel in the past
decade, and recent multimillion dollar settlements on behalf of employees and employers suggest that she wins
outside the courtroom as well.

Kirkgaard has more than 20 years of experience successfully representing individuals and corporate clients in
employment, real estate, business, and complex litigation. In the last five years, she has specialized in employment
related advise and litigation.
