  Explain: We received faculty sponsors from UNC to help support us in this project. In
addition, we received adequate grant funding due to the research component of our project.
That said, I feel that the service component of our project is much more important than the
research and I hope that UNC will find ways to fund service-learning projects in the future.

   Comment on positive features of this program/elective:

   With PPS, we had the ability to see various aspects of the Mexican culture/lifestyle and to feel as if we
were part of the community of Juventino Rosas. Medically, I learned a lot about heart conditions, checking
blood pressure and glucose/cholesterol, and also at providing medical education sessions in Spanish.

   Comment on features that could be improved:

   In the future, we are looking into expanding the services provided in our visits to the rural
communities. We also wish to find a way to fund drug expenditures for the identified persons, as many are
being identified with chronic illnesses but cannot afford the necessary medications to treat these
conditions.
