Regional Queensland Consortia Project February 10, 2009

An industry breakfast was recently held in Bowen to discuss ways in which local
businesses can benefit from the growth and development of major projects in the
Whitsunday region and North Queensland.

Presentations were given by John Holland who outlined the process of how to do business
with them; and Monadelphous, who identified twelve immediate opportunities for local
businesses in areas such as office furniture, piping and painting.

Enterprise Connect also gave an overview of the Australian Government program, which
provides free advice and business analysis to businesses in the manufacturing sector.

Enterprise Whitsundays Transitional CEO Rebecca Andrews said, “A total of 48 people
attended the consortia workshop which is fantastic due to the poor weather conditions,
which did unfortunately stop a number of people attending from the Burdekin region.”

The Mackay Area Industry Network (MAIN) has secured funds from the State Government
to establish the ‘consortia group’ and employ a Project Manager to educate businesses on
the advantage of collaboration and to drive the consortia model. Similar workshops were
also held in Townsville and Mackay.

This project is lead by key industry bodies within North Queensland such as MAIN, TEL,
MWREDC, BCE and Enterprise Whitsundays, which will encourage businesses to work
together to apply for large scale industrial projects. The group will also encourage major
contractors such as BMD, John Holland and Monadelphous to provide tender information
to local companies.

Rebecca Andrews said, “Given the downturn in the economic climate it has become
imperative to implement such models to ensure our region remains sustainable.”
