ENTRY REQUIREMENTS and STUDY PATHWAYS in the Monash University MRE programs for 2010 Our programs provide for some customisation, so most students can choose units to best meet needs. The few constraints that apply are given in the tables below. The usual study load is 2 units per semester, but also possible are: a half study load, of one unit per semester. full-time study (still off-campus) with 4 units chosen for a semester (not suggested nor likely to be approved while working full-time). Elsewhere on this site, you will find “Unit details” with more information about each unit. All the MRE units are offered every year Semester Unit code and title 1 MRE5001 Terotechnology and life cycle costs MRE5002 Maintenance management 1 March MRE5005 Quantitative techniques for asset management to 4 MRE5008 Maintenance & Reliability Engineering Project (initial work in Sem 1 and before) June MRE5101 Basic quantitative skills for reliability engineering 2010 MRE5102 Understanding reliability 2 MRE5003 Industrial techniques in maintenance management MRE5004 Asset management techniques 19 July MRE5006 Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis to 22 MRE5007 Risk Engineering October MRE5008 Maintenance & Reliability Engineering Project (most of the work) 2010 MRE5103 Advanced reliability MRE5104 Reliability applications A. MASTER OF MAINTENANCE AND RELIABILITY ENGINEERING 1. DIRECT ENTRY – requires 4-year engineering degree (BE/BS) - 8 units required: Year 1 Year 2 Semester 1 Semester 2 Semester 1 Semester 2 Choose 2 units per semester from those available, but note: MRE5008 (started in MRE5104 only if MRE5101, MRE5102 and MRE5103 Semester 1) and one other are taken, and unit, per constraints one only is usual from MRE5005, MRE5101, MRE5007 shown at left (some overlap exists: see unit details) (For a half study load, or Semester 2 start, choose units to suit from those available each semester, but note that MRE5008 requires completion of at least 3 units). 2. ARTICULATION FROM GRADUATE DIPLOMA – following completion of Graduate Diploma with 65% overall average grades – additional 4 units required: Year 1 Semester 1 Semester 2 Choose up to 2 units per semester from MRE units available. An elective unit postgraduate unit is usually required, nominated by student for approval. See http://www.monash.edu/pubs/handbooks/postgrad/ for CIVxxxx infrastructure, or Buseco, or Infotech units. Correct as at 5Oct2009, but Monash University reserves the right to make changes without notice. B. GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN ENGINEERING MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT 1. DIRECT ENTRY- with AssocDegree or TAFE Diploma in engineering, or relevant 3 year degree, with 2 year related working experience - 8 units required (Note: on request, other units can be substituted for up to two of these, but MRE5008 is compulsory and can only be taken after at least 3 other units are completed). Year 1 Year 2 Semester 1 Semester 2 Semester 1 Semester 2 MRE5001 MRE5003 MRE5005 MRE5006 MRE5002 MRE5004 MRE5102 MRE5008 (complete) MRE5008 (start) Starting in Semester 2? Take the units listed for Year 1, Semester 1 in Year 3. Half study load? Choose one unit per semester. 2. ARTICULATION FROM A GRADUATE CERTIFICATE – 4 more units. GradCertMaintMgt passed GradCertRelEng passed Year 1 of GradDip Year 1 of GradDip Semester 1 Semester 2 Semester 1 Semester 2 MRE5005 MRE5006 MRE5001 MRE5003 MRE5102 MRE5008 (complete) MRE5002 MRE5004 MRE5008 (start) C. GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT (Usually taken by students without a suitable tertiary qualification but with at least 2 years of relevant working experience. Completion of two units on a “not-for-degree” basis with an 65% average is required to enter the Graduate Certificate with full credit. On request, some other units can be substituted for up to two of these). Year 1 Semester 1 Semester 2 MRE5001 MRE5003 MRE5002 MRE5004 Starting in Semester 2? Take the units listed for Semester 1 in the following year. Half study load? Choose one unit per semester. D. GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN RELIABILITY ENGINEERING This is a sequenced program, so unit substitution is not available, nor is Semester 2 entry. MRE5103 Advanced reliability and MRE5104 Reliability applications require completion of MRE5101 Basic quantitative skills for reliability engineering. Entry requirements are as for Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate above. Usual study load Year 1 Semester 1 Semester 2 MRE5101 MRE5103 MRE5102 MRE5104 Half study load Year 1 Year 2 Semester 1 Semester 2 Semester 1 Semester 2 MRE5101 MRE5103 MRE5102 MRE5104 Correct as at 5Oct2009, but Monash University reserves the right to make changes without notice.
