FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES TERMS ONE & TWO 2010 FAMILY SUPPORT GROUPS Support groups are a way for parents and carers to meet with others who share similar experi- ences, to find and provide support, to share ideas and to gain information. Support Groups 1 At some of the meetings, guest speakers will attend or specific topics will be discussed. At other times, the meetings will focus on parents supporting each other and sharing information. Young Adult 2 Recreation Group Anyone who is interested is invited to join us. Please bring a plate to share for morning tea or supper. Tea and coffee will be provided. TERMS 3 & 4. To be advised PAGE 4 MOTHER’S TIME-OUT CAMPS There are two ‘Mother’s Time-Out Camps’ run during the year. This year, the camps will be held at Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast. These camps provide a valuable opportunity for mums to have a break, meet other mothers, relax and have fun. Activities include visiting mar- kets, craft, shopping, wine tasting , massage and simply have time to relax.. The pick-up and drop-off points for our buses are the Autism Education and Therapy Centres: 437 Hellawell Rd, Sunnybank Hills and 136 North Rd, Brighton. Mums can each attend only one of these camps in the year, and participants are required to be members of Autism Qld. The camps are staffed by Autism Qld employees. 4th-6th June 2010 22nd-24th October 2010 DAD’S OUTINGS At various times throughout the year we will be running special outings / activities for Dads. These events are purely recreational, and will give father’s an opportunity to take a break from work and family commitments and to meet other fathers. Details of these events will be made available throughout the year. Please contact the Family Support Team for further information. Past outings for father’s have included go-karting, watching football and a brewery tour. SIBLING’S OUTINGS During each school holidays there will be a recreational outing for junior siblings (aged 6—12yrs) and for teenage siblings (aged 13—17yrs). Details of outings will be made available leading up towards each holiday period. Participants are required to be family members of Autism Qld, and parents are asked to cover the costs of activities. Please contact the Family Support Team for further information. Past outings for siblings have included SeaWorld, MovieWorld, ghost tour, Sciencentre, State Library Children’s Theatre, GOMA and movies. Playgroup is held at ‘Birralee’, 331 Jackson Rd, Sunnybank Hills. Playgroup runs from 9.30am—11.30am weekly on MONDAYS dur- ing school term. TERMS 1 and 2.
