1.1 Overview



In 2008, the construction materials market value was IDR93,385.6 billion (US$9.3 billion), representing a CAGR of

11.34% during the period 2004-2009E. Concrete, mortar & cement were the biggest contributors to the value of the

overall market, followed by asphalt & aggregates and timber, lumber & wood.



The construction industry in Indonesia is growing and which has driven the cement demand. The domestic cement

consumption in Indonesia grew by 11.5% in 2008 to 38.0 million tons in 2008 in comparison to the previous year. The

sturdy growth in cement sales in 2008 was mainly supported by high commodity prices earlier in 2008, which created

high demand from commodity producing areas. The sales of cement in the country are expected to further improve as

demand is set to increase with various government infrastructure projects in pipeline.



Wood-based panels and concrete, mortar & cement have been growth drivers over the period 2004-08. WMI expects
