TIPS FOR SAVING ENERGY AND SAVING MONEY
1. Replace worn weather stripping on doors and windows. This should take about ten minutes and cost about $8. 2. Make sure there are no cracks in the windows. 3. Caulk the window frames to keep out air. 4. Install a plastic window seal on the interior of the house. 5. Use spray foam to seal the cracks around windows. 6. Set the Thermostat at one comfortable temperature and leave it there. A one degree increase in temperature raises the electricity bill 3-5%. 7. Pull down attic stairs should be insulated. This takes about five minutes and the home owner should slide insulation from the bottom of the stair door to the top. 8. Air filters should be checked every month and changed as needed. 9. Outlets should be insulated. 10. In a wood burning fire place the damper should open when burning and closed when completely cooled. In a gas burning fire place, the damper should be left open at all times. 11. Use florescent light bulbs. The bulbs use less electricity and last eight times longer. 12. Use a water heater insulator around water heater to keep the heat from getting out. 13. Always use gloves, glasses, and masks when doing these repairs.
