Royal Australian Mint suspect faces Canberra court
A 48-year-old man today faced Canberra Magistrates Court in relation to theft of
currency from the Royal Australian Mint.

The man was extradited from Victoria to the ACT yesterday to face Court on a new
charge of Theft of Commonwealth Property under Section 131.1 of the Criminal Code
1995 relating to $114,034 in $2 coins which was located in a Queanbeyan residence
 on Monday.

The man was arrested on Sunday in Bendigo, Victoria, following a tip-off from the
 public.

It is alleged the man stole between $500 to $700 per week by concealing minted $2
coins in his work-boots and lunch-box.

The man was granted conditional bail and will next appear in Canberra Magistrates
 Court on 16 March 2006.
