BARGAIN SALE 2007
Set-Up: Thursday, October 18 and Friday, October 19, 2007
Preview Night: Friday, October 19, 2007
Bargain Sale: Saturday, October 20, 2007
National Guard Armory – 801 Stadium Dr., Durham, NC 27704
This document is intended to provide general information about shift requirements and
pricing in order to help you select your merchandise, mark and drop off your quota, and
complete your tax form(s).
Membership Requirements
1. Actives and Provisionals need to contribute at least $100 worth of merchandise.
(note: Gold Level members need to contribute $50 worth of merchandise). This applies
to members on leave as well. Within your contribution, please include $20 worth of
Treasures, $10 worth of Clothing (no more than three items of Women’s Clothing, with
exceptions for New Items with Tags, Maternity, Plus Sizes, Maternity, Outerwear,
Boutique items and Evening Wear), and $10 worth of Arts & Crafts / Holiday / Hardware
/ Garden. The remaining $60 is at your discretion. We encourage you to give
generously; this year we are looking in particular for new items, as we feel they will
generate more revenue for the League. In lieu of merchandise requirements, you may
write a check to the JLDOC for $140.
Please note: We will be looking at your Treasure Quota this year as you check-in
with your quota to ensure it falls into the Treasure category. If you do not have a
true Treasure (as noted above), you may write a check for $35. Remember, we
double the price of treasures on Preview Night, and they are often our best
sellers!
2. Bring two copies of your completed tax form(s) with you when you drop off your
quota. We will keep one copy, and you may need the other copy for your records.
3. Bring a new toy or blanket worth $10 for Community Basket. We stock a table with
these contributions specifically for Seniors who may be shopping for their grandchildren.
4. Shift requirements differ based on membership level:
Bronze members and provisionals must work 2 shifts during Bargain Sale. One
of the Provisional shifts should be on Saturday.
Silver members must work 1 Bargain Sale shift
Gold members must work 1 Bargain Sale shift or 1 Extra Hands shift.
Do NOT plan to drop off your quota during your shift. You may drop it off before or
after, but please allow at least 30 minutes to do so. If you have any difficulty with shift
sign-up or questions regarding your shift, please get in touch with Culver
Scales(scale009@mc.duke.edu). If, for some reason, you are unable to fulfill your shift
requirement(s) and have not made prior arrangements with the Bargain Sale Personnel
Chair, you must write a check to the JLDOC for $100.
Quota/Pricing Information
1. Every item in your quota should be clean and in good working order. All items except
adult clothing, books, and furniture should be clearly marked with a price and size (when
appropriate). Please look at the individual department listings for additional information
about hanging, tagging, and pricing.
2. If you would like us to price your quota for you, please bring a check for $40. Make
sure you drop your quota off on Thursday, November 18. We will not accept unpriced
quota after Thursday.
3. There will be a prize for the member who donates the most quota - the 2006 Quota
Queen will not be required to donate quota next year! Please alert a member of the
Bargain Sale Committee if you are interested in competing for this prize.
4. Do Not Donate List: sinks, toilets, drop-in appliances, knives, guns, sleeping pillows,
mattresses, underwear, T-shirts, socks, pantyhose (unless in unopened packages), rubber
pants, used stuffed animals, wine bottles, bathing suits, or textbooks, or anything stained,
soiled, or broken. If you would throw it away, please don’t bring it to Bargain Sale!
ARTS & CRAFTS
This department includes anything handmade, as well as craft supplies. If you have a
very nice handmade item, please bring it to the department chairwoman and she will help
you price it.
