Tips on Using Your VISA® Check Card Wisely
It may be only plastic, but your check card is your ticket to cash and your license to buy. Your check card has a built-in safety feature—it prevents you from spending more than you have in your credit union account. It's a key to debt because if you do spend more than you have, you're subjected to overdraft fees on top of the dollar amount.
Use Your Check Card Wisely
N Record your check card transactions in your checkbook register. Compare them to your statement. Contact us if there are any errors. N Keep your card in a safe place and be aware of where your card is at all times. Don't share your PIN with anyone. N Keep your account number, card expiration date and our telephone number handy in case your card is lost or stolen.
Report to Us Quickly
If your check card is lost or stolen, contact us right away during office hours 8a.m. - 5p.m. at 442-6501 and after hours at 1-800-554-8969. VISA® also supplies uniform card protection. VISA’s zero liability policy covers all VISA debit card transactions processed over the VISA network-online or off. Use your VISA check card to shop online, in a store, or anywhere. When all is said and done, keeping your check card safe and secure and using it wisely will protect your credit union account and provide you with a great way to pay and access cash.
You Can Fight Identity Theft
Here’s How:
Never provide personal financial information, including your social Security number, account numbers or passwords, over the phone or the Internet if you did not initiate the contact. Never click on the link provided in an e-mail you believe is fraudulent. It may contain a virus that can contaminate your computer. Do not be intimidated by an e-mail or caller who suggest dire consequences if you do not immediately provide or verify financial information. If you believe the contact is legitimate, go to the company’s Web site by typing in the site address directly or using a page you have previously book marked, instead of a link provided in the e-mail. If you fall victim to an attack, act immediately to protect yourself. Alert your financial institution. Place fraud alerts on your credit files. Monitor your credit files and account statements closely. Report suspicious e-mails or calls to the Federal Trade Commission through the Internet at www.consumer.gov/idtheft, or by calling 1-877-IDTHEFT.
What to do if you fall victim:
Contact your financial institution immediately and alert it to the situation. If you have disclosed sensitive information in a phishing attack, you should also contact one of the three major credit bureaus and discuss whether you need to place a fraud alert on your file, which will help prevent thieves from opening a new account in your name. Here is the contact information for each bureau’s fraud division: Equifax Experian 800-525-6285 888-397-3742 P.O. Box 740250 P.O.
