Management Development Programme on PEOPLE-MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE FEBRUARY 19 - 23, 2007 MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE GURGAON Background Proactively responding to the chaotic business environment has become an absolute necessity for companies in the post-liberalization era. The new world offers challenges as well opportunities. People-centric management is being seen at the heart of business strategy by Indian as well as global companies so as to efficaciously confront the new challenges. The new thinking underscores "people first and strategy second." There is a constant focus on improving the deliverables of line as well as human resource (HR) managers. The present scenario necessitates finding ways to integrate people management strategy with business strategy with a view to building and enhancing organizational capabilities. Thus, attempts are being made towards knitting customers' expectations to employees' mindsets, attitudes and behaviours, leading to organizational performance excellence. Propulsion towards these goals necessitates that corporate policy makers rearrange people-management architecture. The 'Change Dances' involved in these configurations often involve unlearning the old ways of managing people and discovering and building on strategic people-management themes to facilitate attainment of the desired change. This management development program aims to sensitize line as well as HR professionals in discovering the latest global developments in people-management strategies and understanding the adoption of such policies for value creation and competitive advantage. Contents People-management strategies: Emerging conceptual frameworks in the new era Leading change through strategic people-management interventions Managing talent though meeting the expectations Building a global workforce through management of diversity Developing frameworks of strategic employee relations Empowerment strategies for promoting employee engagement Strategic organizational performance and Balanced Score Card Communication strategies for Effective People Management Building a learning organization High performance work Systems: Building a Great Place to work Methodology The learning methodology will include: presentations by distinguished panels and individual experts from academia and industry; experiential sharing; live case discussions; and problem-solving projects. Being situated in the National Capital Territory Region, MDI has the advantage of drawing the best possible faculty resource/personnel from the NCR region. Select background readings and groupwork will supplement these. For Whom The programme is designed for Line Managers, HR Managers, Functional Executives and Department and Section Heads from Private, Public and Multi National Corporations (MNCs) who are concerned about developing effective people policies. Venue and Duration The programme would be conducted for five days during February 19-23, 2007 on residential basis at MDI Campus, Mehrauli Road, Sukhrali, Sector-17, Gurgaon-122001. Accommodation for the participants would be available at Executive Hostel in MDI from the noon of February 18, 2007 to the noon of February 24, 2007. Registration & Fees Participants should be nominated by their organizations. The enclosed nomination form should be completed and returned to the Chief Administrative Officer (Programmes), Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, by February 9, 2007. The fee for the programme is Rs. 30,000 (Rupees thirty thousand) only per participant, which includes professional fee, all charges for lodging and boarding, and supply of course material. Saini, Ph.D (Delhi) is Professor & Chairperson--HRM Area at Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon-122001. He has authored or edited seven books including: Change Champion's Field Guide (Editors: Dave Ulrich, Louis Carter, Marshall Goldsmith and Debi S. Saini) published by Excel, New Delhi, 2005. He is the author of a book-size volume on "Social Security Law: India," which forms part of the International Encyclopaedia of Laws (Kluwer Law International, The Hague). He has also authored 53 papers/management cases and 115 book reviews in the areas of strategic HRM, change management, employee relations, and employment law. Dr. Saini is the Editor of Vision--The Journal of Business Perspective, the journal of MDI. Among others, he has done consultancy assignments for ILO, and GTZ (Germany). He is a well-known researcher/consultant in strategic people-management and new industrial relations. Jyotsna Bhatnagar, (Ph.D, IIT Delhi) is Associate Professor--HRM Area at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon-122001. She launched her academic career at IIM Ahmedabad in 1990, and has over ten years of experience in teaching, research and training. She has published around 45 papers in national and international journals including: International Journal of HRM, Journal of Labour Research, Asia-Pacific Business Review, HRD International, Vikalpa, Management and Labour, among others. She has been invited to provide training on HR issues to IAS officers and Defense Officers, managers of American Express¸ ONGC¸ PGCIL¸ ABB¸ BEL, NTPC, UCO Bank, and IOCL.
