Dear Parents, Students and Teachers,

Congratulations to the boys and girls in Year 2 who received the sacrament of
Confirmation last Friday evening. I was impressed with the reverence and openness
of the children throughout the liturgy. I also thank the parish team leaders,
parents, liturgy committee and teachers for all their hard work in preparing the
children for this special occasion.

                                 Holy Spirit Prayer
        Christ Jesus, before ascending into heaven, You promised to send the Holy
        Spirit to Your apostles and disciples.
        Grant that the same Spirit may perfect in our lives the work of Your grace
        and love.
        Grant us the Spirit of Fear Of The Lord that we may be filled with a loving
        reverence toward You.
        The Spirit of Piety that we may find peace and fulfilment in the service of
        God while serving others;
        The Spirit of Fortitude that we may bear our cross with You and, with
        courage, overcome the obstacles that interfere with our salvation;
        The Spirit of Knowledge that we may know You and know ourselves and grow
        in holiness;
        The Spirit of Understanding to enlighten our minds with the light of Your
                           truth;
                           The Spirit of Counsel that we may choose the surest way
                           of doing Your will, seeking first the Kingdom;
                           Grant us the Spirit of Wisdom that we may aspire to the
                           things that last forever;
                           Teach us to be Your faithful disciples and animate us in
                           every way with Your Spirit.
                           Amen.
Thank You
As the end of Term 3 approaches, I wish to thank the teachers for all there hard work
in preparing lessons, marking work, working on School Review and caring for our children.
I thank the children for the wonderful gift they are to us, for their openness, trust and
joyful spirits. Thanks also to all the parents who continue to support the school through
the P&F, reading programs, canteen, computer classes and general help around the
school.
Try to have a restful and safe two-week break, return fresh and ready for the sprint
towards the end of year.
A reminder to parents all students will return to school for the beginning of Term 4 in
their summer uniform.

School Web Site Launch
A reminder that we are launching our new school web site this evening at 7:00pm. Come
along enjoy the evening with a drink and something to nibble on while you have the
chance to explore the site.

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy)
Next Thursday afternoon, 25th September, from 2:45 to 3:15pm Ms. Kane will be holding
a short meeting in the school library to inform parents about how to read and interpret
the parent report. I would invite all parents of students in years 3 and 5 to attend, as
the NAPLAN report is quite different to the previous Basic Skills Test report, even
though they appear similar.

Newsletter
Over the past few terms I have been concerned about the size of the newsletter, which
has consistently been 6 to 8 pages long each week. For the sake of the environment and
parents’ sanity, next term we will be trialling a fortnightly newsletter with an
information note in the alternative week. Newsletters will be sent home on the
Wednesday of even weeks (wks 2, 4, 6,8,10) with a shorter information sheet sent home
on the odd weeks (Wks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) this format will be assessed by the staff and at the
P&F meeting in Week 8.

Congratulations to our Junior Boys Relay Team; Mitchell E, Jordan G, Connor K and
Ryan S, who came second at the Polding Athletics Trials and will now be running at the
NSW Athletics Carnival next term.

God Bless

Confirmation 2008
                    Congratulations to the 83 children from the Kincumber and surrounding parishes who made
                    their Confirmation on Friday evening. Both celebrations went extremely well. A big thank
                    you to Bishop David Walker, Father Carl, Father Matthew and the servers who did both
                    celebrations. Thank you to Louise B and Veronica H for running the celebrations and to
                    Peter B and Anne-Maree T for their beautiful music and singing.
                    The evening celebrations were a lovely end to a wonderful day. Most of the children spent all
                    day Friday rehearsing and decorating the St Josephs Centre. They were all very well behaved
                    and polite and should be congratulated. Thank you to all the parents who helped on the day;
                    Veronica H, Louise B, Kylie C and her mum Lesley L, Stephanie A, Michelle R, Cecilia B, Kim
                    G, Leanne H, Sue S, Nadine A, Tracy F, Rowena A, Margaret H and Lisa L.
Thank you to Mrs Hamilton and Mrs Goes for helping on the day and also to Tracy W for supplying the beautiful
flowers for the alter.
Lastly, thank you to the parents who have supported their children during the Confirmation program. As Bishop
Walker said on Friday, children learn by example, and from the fantastic behaviour the children displayed on
Friday, they have obviously had great people to learn from. We look forward to celebrating Reconciliation and
First Eucharist in 2009.
