EDF and EnBW joint investors in a plan
for natural gas storage facility in
Germany
EDF and German energy company EnBW, 45%-owned by EDF, have each signed an
agreement with the German company, IVG Immobilien, for the storage of natural gas, at
Etzel close to the North Sea, from 2010 onward.
Under these agreements, EDF and EnBW will have access to underground salt caverns
with a storage capacity of 400 million m3 for a 35-year term.
EDF and EnBW will manage the project to build a gas compression facility close to the
storage site, whose construction and maintenance is entrusted to IVG Immobilien.
EDF and EnBW will also become members of the consortium building the 56 kilometre
gas pipeline connecting the Etzel storage site to the Dutch natural gas transport network.
