 Situated in the Western Heights suburb of Rotorua.

 Catering for year 7 and year 8 students from 7 contributing schools.

 Roll 520

 Teachers 29 with a staff of 42.

 Decile 2 -- contributing schools decile one or two.

 Low socio economic area.

 Transient population

 70% Maori 28% Pakeha 2% other

 Composition boys 51% girls 49%

 Seen as a positive not a negative and we have high expectations of

our students

 Challenge Academy----for students who enjoyed learning

through sport,PE,fitness and health.

 Expressive Academy----for students who enjoyed learning

through dance,music,drama and performance.

 Discovery Academy----for students who enjoy working with a

variety of technologies.

 Adventure Learning Academy----for students who are reading

below their chronological age.

 Highly Academic Accelerate Academy----for gifted and talented

learners.

 Rumaki----total immersion Maori



WHAT HAS CHANGED?



 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 and 2010.

 N0 standdowns.

 Two suspensions over2008/2009.

 Reduction in late students.

 Greatly reduced truancy and unexplained absences. Average

attendance up significantly.

 50% more parental involvement.

 Fewer teacher absences.

 Increased literacy levels overall including Maori students.

 Survey results indicate parents and students much happier and

more willing to attend.
