Have your say on the future of Byford

The public is encouraged to comment on a number of significant planning
proposals, currently out for advertising until 18 December, which will determine how
Byford develops into the future.

Shire President Sheila Twine urged the local community to take part in this
opportunity to communicate with the Shire.

“There are currently six different proposals out for advertising,” Cr Twine said.

These include:

• A Local Structure Plan for the Byford Town Centre, including the existing Town
  Centre and expansion of the Town Centre to the west of the railway line.
• A set of design guidelines, as a local planning policy, for the Byford Town Centre
• A Local Structure Plan for the ‘Byford Main Precinct’, including The Glades
  Residential Estate, which in the future will accommodate more than 3,500 new
  homes;
• An amendment to the Shire’s Town Planning Scheme No 2, to ensure that new
  subdivision and development complies with the latest drainage strategy for the
  Byford Area;
• The partial closure and realignment of a portion of Doley Road, to facilitate the
  retention of existing trees within a future road median;
• A modification to the Byford Structure Plan, to effectively discontinue the option of
  Orton Road being used as interim linkage between Tonkin Highway and the South
  Western Highway.

“In addition, two public information sessions will be held to provide opportunities for
the local community to come and discuss these proposals with the Shire’s elected
members, staff and consultants,” The information sessions will be on:
• 18 November, from 3pm-7pm, and
• 8 December, from 3pm-7pm.

Both of the information sessions will be at the Serpentine Jarrahdale Recreation
Centre on Mead Street, Byford.

There are a significant number of related technical documents and plans also
available for downloading from the Shire’s website at www.sjshire.wa.gov.au

‘We’re delivering the vision’
“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for the local community and the Shire to
enter into real dialogue about the future of Byford. It is our future and while we need
to cater for new growth, we need to do everything we can to protect the existing
character of the area, along with the lifestyle and opportunities for our community”, Cr
Twine said.
