					Pulsatile Tinnitus Causes and Treatments
In pulsatile tinnitus, the patients experience sounds which are similar to their heart beats in their
ears. These sounds do not originate from any external stimulus but from the centre of their brains.
In this form of Tinnitus, the thumping sounds can be heard every time the heart beats. This
condition is also referred to as vascular tinnitus because it is linked with a disturbance in blood
circulation.

The people suffering from pulsatile tinnitus constitute only 3 % of the total tinnitus patients. This
disorder arises due to an increase in the blood flow or the narrowing of the blood vessel
openings. In both these cases the blood flow increases and hence a whooshing sound can be
heard in the ears.

Pulsatile tinnitus varies from other forms of Tinnitus which may result from some disease or
damage. In maximum cases this type of Tinnitus is found in only one ear.

Pulsatile tinnitus should be examined immediately once it becomes evident because increase in
blood flow can lead to a stroke also.

This condition may arise due to underlying problems such as atherosclerosis and hypertension.
The treatment is decided only after the exact cause has been diagnosed.

Some people overlook the problem which deteriorates it problem and causes complications.
Immediate and timely treatment is of utmost importance in this disorder. A number of tests
including x-rays are to be done to understand the real cause. The underlying cause can be quite
dangerous like a tumor. So it is wise to act on time and get oneself examined.

The most apparent symptom of pulsatile tinnitus is the ringing sound which is in sync with the
heartbeat. The kind of noise determines the exact location from where the sound arises. Low
pitched humming sounds can be a result of a venous blood flow, whereas a quick clicking sound
may be linked with the contractions of the palatal muscles and the middle ear.

Some of the causes of pulsatile tinnitus are tumors, hypertension, arteriovenous, chronic
inflammation in the middle ear, Intracranial Hypertension (BIH) etc

Advanced techniques such as MRI, MRA, CT scans, ultrasound etc have to be used to determine
the exact cause of the problem.

The patients need to use symptom management techniques as well as multidisciplinary cures to
cope with this disorder. If the disorder is caused by blocked arteries, then surgical repair is
conducted. For hypertension induced disorder, medicines would be suitable. Apart from a medical
treatment relaxation therapy is also beneficial

Pulsatile tinnitus may get triggered by any condition which increases blood flow. This condition
calls for an immediate examination because it may result due to a gloms or a globe shaped tumor
or an equally serious underlying cause. This article aims to arm the reader with useful info which
may help them grasp this condition better.
