move to industry-wide awards

The President said that, wherever it is convenient and appropriate to do so, industries will be grouped
together in the one modern award.

To address the genuine individual needs of employers and employees, modern awards will contain a ‘model
award flexibility clause’, which will allow for adjustment of specific clauses in individual workplaces.

There will be consultation on all aspects of the award modernisation process. The AIRC will publish exposure
drafts of each modern award to provide an opportunity for employers and other stakeholders to express
views, present material and propose amendments.

The President has invited stakeholders and interested parties to prepare written submissions or appear
before the AIRC at scheduled consultation sessions. A Full Bench will sit to consult on the draft priority list in
Melbourne on 26 and 27 may 2008, Sydney on 28 may 2008, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra on
29 may 2008 and Hobart and Perth (and Darwin by video link) on 30 may 2008.

Parties wishing to attend should indicate their interest in writing as soon as practicable. Written submissions
may be made until 6 June 2008.
