ANIMAL HUSBANDRY
   Limited number of animals per unit of area in order to
    limit the environmental pollution
   Organic fodder to feed livestock
   Low use of concentrate
   Livestock buildings satisfying animal welfare
   Livestock living a lot of time in open-air
   Natural treatments for livestock (plant extracts,
    homeopathic products)
   Animal food without non-complying products (pesticides,
    fertilizers, veterinary drugs, etc.)
   Conversion period

    CONVERSION

       After conversion of plant production unit
       Simultaneous conversion
       Reduction of conversion period (not                          for
        herbivorous):
    - 1 year for pasturages and open air exercise areas
    - 6 months if the land concerned has not received
      treatments with products not in compliance with organic
      agriculture rules.

    CONVERSION
    Livestock and livestock products are to be sold like
      organic products after:
     12 months: bovine, bubalus species and
      equidae for meat production;
     6 months: ovine, caprine, pigs;
     6 months: animals for milk production;
     10 weeks: poultry for meat production;
     6 weeks: poultry for eggs production
     24 months in case of simultaneous conversion

      Livestock must come from organic
        production units

      It is possible to bring into organic livestock

      It is possible to bring into organic livestock
         conventional animals:

       pullets and chicks less than 3 days old
       buffalo, calves and horses less than 6
        months old
       piglets less than 35 kg
       ewes and goats less than 45 days old

    FEED

     Natural milk for young mammals
     Use of pasturage for herbivores
     Feed material produced without chemical
      solvents treatments
     No antibiotics, coccidiostatic, medicinal
      substances like growth stimulating
     No GMO

    DISEASE PREVENTION AND
    VETERINARY TREATMENT
    Disease prevention is based on:
     Selection of appropriate breeds

       Application of animal husbandry
        appropriate practices
       Use of high quality feed
       Regular exercise and access to pasturage

    DISEASE PREVENTION AND
    VETERINARY TREATMENT
     Use of phytotherapeutic and homeopathic
      products
     Use of chemically-synthesized allopathic
      veterinary medicinal products or antibiotics
      in case of suffering and to avoid animal
      death, no use for preventive treatments
     The withdrawal period is to be twice the
      legal one

    DISEASE PREVENTION AND
    VETERINARY TREATMENT
     An animal cannot be sold as organic after
      3 courses of allopathic or antibiotic
      treatments
     No use of stimulating growth substances
      and no use of hormones
     Possibility to use vaccinations
     All the treatments shall be recorded

    HUSBANDRY MANAGEMENT
    PRACTICES

     Husbandry management is based on
      natural principle
     Keeping livestock tethered is forbidden
     The housing of calves in individual boxes
      is forbidden after the age of one week

    FREE RANGE AREAS AND
    LIVESTOCK HOUSING
       Housing conditions must respect animal welfare
       Minimum surface areas of livestock buildings are
        definite
       Poultry must be reared in open-range conditions
        and cannot be kept in cages
       No more than 4800 chickens or 3000 laying
        hens in each poultry house

    LIVESTOCK HOUSING

     If the livestock housing is not in compliance
         with the Regulation the certification body
            may authorize derogations from the
        requires of some paragraphs for a period
              expiring on 31 December 2010
