Businesses that scored above 90 per cent with no consumer complaints were considered for one of the Council’s most prestigious awards. New and Emerging Communities Youth Leadership Program 2010 The Council is holding its fourth New and Emerging Communities Youth Leadership Program commencing this month for young people who have recently arrived in Australia. The program includes a youth camp and a series of activities and workshops for young people to develop their leadership potential. Participants will develop greater knowledge and awareness about their local community, build relationships with key organisations and emergency services, make new friends and develop their leadership skills through training and practical activities. If you live in Hobsons Bay, are aged between 16 and 25 years and have arrived in Australia in the last five years, you are encouraged to apply. Have Your Say on Waste and Litter Management in Hobsons Bay The Council is calling for community feedback on its Waste and Litter Management Plan Issues Paper. The issues paper provides background, highlights relevant federal and state government objectives, establishes baseline data and provides recommendations for inclusion in the Hobsons Bay Waste and Litter Management Plan 2010 – 2014 to be developed following community feedback on the issues paper. The new plan will focus on targets associated with municipal waste and litter and key improvement areas such as community education and engagement, municipal waste services and litter collections. The Council will conduct a forum with interested parties to discuss the content and recommendations of the draft plan. The Council will gauge the success of its plan through targets that are consistent with state government objectives. Laverton Aquatic Leisure Centre Feasibility Study The SGL Group is undertaking the Laverton Aquatic Leisure Centre Feasibility Study on behalf of the Council. As part of the feasibility study, the Council is now calling for written submissions from community members about their current and future needs for swimming and leisure facilities, programs and services in Laverton. Public Notice Alcohol Restrictions - Bayside Festival and Williamstown Festival In accordance with clause 86 of its Community Local Law, the Council has designated the following areas as alcohol free zones. • Bayside Festival Alcohol restrictions apply to the following areas from 10.00am on Saturday, 20 th March to 6.00pm on Sunday, 21st March: J K Grant Reserve, bounded by Fresno Street, Sugargum Drive and Civic Parade, Altona; excluding the two 30 metre areas to the north and south of the existing sports pavilion and social room buildings, and any premises already licensed to sell and serve alcohol within the boundaries of J K Grant Reserve, as signposted.
