					              CHARGE WORSHIP COMMITTEE MEETING
                     WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2008

Attendance:
Doreen French (Chair), Kathleen Owens, Ollie Rome, Jan Heffer, Catherine Kellett,
Pat Thornett, Keith Welborn, Rev. Max Ward, Shirley Holmes, Irene Alexander (Sec.)

Doreen welcomed everyone to the meeting in Minden.

MOTION: Jan Heffer/ Ollie Rome to approve the Charge Worship minutes of August
22, 2007. Carried.

Pulpit Supply
§ Draft preaching schedule for April, May and June distributed
§ Keith working on filling openings for April, May and June
§ Keith wondering about Rev. Ceri Rees doing a Christian Rock Bands presentation:
   an introduction of up-to-date Christian rock music. Wondering about an afternoon
   seminar or perhaps during a worship service – possibly May 4.
   Decided more information needed before a date is set.
§ Remembrance Day - Charge services will take place as usual on the Sunday prior
                      - Cairn service will be held on November 11

Business Arising from Minutes
§ Official Board did not approve the motion: “When the minister is not available for
   the 3 churches, that Maple Lake be asked to join Zion or Minden or provide their own
   service.”
§ Resources for services and emergency folder - Jan has assembled a binder for each
   church – consisting of material for childrens time, the sermon time, and prayers of the
   people - will ease anxious moments knowing this is in the pulpit!

New Business
§ Christmas Eve services all well attended - good to keep going
MOTION: Shirley Holmes/ Pat Thornett that April 20 Earth Day Service with Outloud
Womyn’s Voices be held as a joint service at Maple Lake. Potluck luncheon to follow.
Carried.

§   Clergy Day Apart - March 30 - all points will be using the supplied services.
    Material has not yet arrived from Presbytery.
§   Palms have been ordered for Palm Sunday
§   Communion Services: Palm Sunday March 16;        Pentecost May 11;
                       World Wide Communion Oct. 5;      First Sunday Advent Nov. 30
§   LicenSing contract renewed October 2007 $159.00

§   MOTION: Irene/ Jan that Rev. Max use “Psalms Now” by Leslie Brandt during
    worship for 4 weeks and see how it is received. Carried.
    The psalms are more extensively paraphrased and use modern language.

§   Rev. Max will also try using “The Message”, a paraphrase of the bible.
§   Rev. Max wanting our thoughts on guest speakers/ presenters.
    Speaker from Emmanuel College gave a sermon that was fine.
    Presenters “Places for People” could have been a short presentation rather than using
    the entire sermon segment.
§   Rev. Max to let worship committee know about speakers and the committee will
    respond to Max.
§   Will try for better communication between Outreach Committee and Worship
    Committee.
§   Easter Sunrise Service at Twelve Mile Lake Church – will locate a propane heater to
    warm church up
§   Congo Presentation could be on a pulpit supply Sunday.
    Rev. John and Thea Patterson at Maple Lake
    Barb Walford-Davis and Mary Hicks at Zion
    Shirley Holmes and Elizabeth McMullen at Minden
§   The Brass Quintet directed by Bas Bouthoorne is available to play at services.

Rev. Max closed with prayer.
