Welcome Week Activities for New International Students


 Faculty Inductions
 It is important that you attend your faculty induction:
   Tuesday 22 September – Engineering Undergraduate
   Lecture Room K3.25, John Anderson Building,10am.

   Wednesday 23 September – Science Undergraduate
   Lecture Room K3.25, John Anderson Building, 9am.

   Thursday 24 September – BEd (Education)
   LectureRoom K3.25, John Anderson Building,10am
   Law, Arts and Social Sciences (LASS)
   Lecture Room K3.25, John Anderson Building, 2.30pm

   Friday 25 September – Strathclyde Business School
   Lecture Room K3.25, John Anderson Building, 10am.

Monday 21 – Friday 25 September
 9am – 4pm, University Gardens, Rottenrow
   “Meet and Greet” Team will be here to welcome you and
   direct you around the university.
 Campus Tours
   Tours will be running regularly throughout the week starting
   from the University Gardens marquee.

Wednesday 16 September
 Weekly International Meeting
   The venue changes every week, so check the map on the
   door of the International & Graduate Office (IGO) every
   Wednesday (Level 4, 50 George Street) or send your email
   address to jim.wilson@strath.ac.uk and he will inform you
   where the meeting is being held
Thursday 17 September
 5pm - 7pm - Drop-in session with an International Student
 Adviser
   An opportunity to have a cup of tea/coffee and ask
   Any questions you may have as you settle in your new
   surroundings. You will also meet other new arrivals
   Venue: Java Internet Café

Saturday 19th September
 Check into Student Residences in Lord Todd/Village Office
   10am – 4pm – Staff from the International & Graduate
   Office will be on hand to answer your questions as you
   check into your room

Sunday 20th September
 Check into Student Residences in Lord Todd/Village Office
   10am – 4pm – Staff from the International & Graduate
   Office will be on hand to answer your questions as you
   check into your room
 10am – 12 noon Doors Open Day
   An opportunity to see inside many buildings which are
   normally closed to the public. It will also give you chance to
   become familiar with Glasgow City Centre. Meet Jim Wilson
   at the lions on George Square
 Fresher’s Welcome Party
   Live football, games, and live DJ sets at the Students’
   Union, John Street

Monday 21st September
 9.30am – 4pm – Registration
   Assembly Hall, enter via James Weir Building, Montrose
   Street
10am – Introductory meeting for Non-European Exchange
Students
  Room 3, Level 3, McCance Building
  (NB ERASMUS students should see ERASMUS
  departmental co-ordinators)
11am & 2pm – Library Induction
  A guided tour round the Library and an introduction to
  Library Services. Curran Building. Sign up in advance in the
  International and Graduate Office
11am – 4pm – The Big Fairground
  Fun fairground activities, Campus Village
2pm – President of Students’ Union’s welcome
  Vertigo, Level 8, Students’ Union
2pm – 4pm RBS Account Opening
  Royal Bank of Scotland will be on campus to open bank
  accounts. Please bring your Accommodation contract
  (stamped by the Village Office) , passport and the bank
  letter you were given at RegistrationVenue: Java Internet
  Cafe
5pm – 7pm Drop –in session with an International Student

  Come along for live comedy, a hypnotism show featuring a
  dog, headphone disco and much, much more! John Street
Tuesday 22 September
 9am – 4pm – Registration

 11am & 2pm – Library Induction
   A guided tour round the Library and an introduction to
   Library Services. Curran Building. Sign up in advance in the
   International and Graduate Office

 10am – 4pm – Jordanhill Campus Fair
   The opportunity for students at Jordanhill to get involved
   with the Union, sign up for sports, societies, clubs etc.

 3pm – 6pm – Celebration & Diversity
   Vertigo, Level 6, Students’ Union
   Learn about support services for Students with Disabilities,
   Mature Students Association, Women’s Group, The Union’s
   International Group, Race Relations, and LGBT (Lesbian,
   Gay, Bisexual and Transgender). Free buffet!

 3pm – 3am – 12 Hour Tuesday
   12 hours of partying at the Students’ Union, including
   Circus of Horrors at 9pm and Karaoke at 10pm

 6pm – 8pm – International Students’ Meal
   Opportunity to unwind and meet new friends. Chaplaincy
   Centre, John Street

Wednesday 23 September
 9am – 4pm – Registration
   Assembly Hall, enter via James Weir Building, Montrose
   Street
10am – 4pm – Fresher’s Fair
  Companies, clubs, societies, freebies. Come along and find
  out what is happening around the University. Refectory,
  next to Sports Centre, off Cathedral Street.

10am – 4pm – Sports Fair
  Find out what sports clubs are available on campus.
  Joining a club is a great way to meet new people. Level 8,
  Students’ Union.

11am & 2pm – Library Induction
  A guided tour round the Library and an introduction to
  Library Services. Curran Building. Sign up in advance in the
  International and Graduate Office

3pm – 5pm – Orientation Session for New International
Students
  An introduction to the University, Glasgow and all the
  University support services. Lecture Room K3.25, Level 3,
  John Anderson Building

5pm – 7pm – International Welcome Reception from Students’
Association
  Students’ Union Building, John Street – The Scene,
  Level 4

8pm – Fresher’s Ball
  DJs, bands and more to start the academic year. Choose a
  decade and dress up to match! Students’ Union

   Open to all postgraduate students. Free cocktails/mocktails.
   Priory, Level 6, Students’ Union
 6pm – 8pm – International Students’ Meal
   Opportunity to unwind and meet new friends. Chaplaincy
   Centre, John Street
 9pm – Open Mic night
   Whether you are a singer-songwriter, a budding comedian,
   a storyteller or you just want to be entertained, there is
   something for everyone. Priory, Level 6, Students’ Union

Friday 25 September
 9am – 4pm – Registration

   union, including big student tunes in the Barony and
   Ministry of Sound in Vertigo

Sunday 27 September
 10am – 12 noon Doors Open Day
   An opportunity to see inside many buildings which are
   normally closed to the public. It will also give you chance to
   become familiar with Glasgow City Centre. Meet Jim Wilson
   at the lions on George Square

 12 pm – 2pm Sunday lunch – Scottish Style
   The Scene, Level 4, Students’ Union Building

 8pm – Big Brother Beach Party
   Students’ Union

   aimed at late arrivals. This time in P514, Level 5, Graham
   Hills Building, 50 Richmond Street

 9pm – Weekly International Meeting
   Weekly pub night, every Wednesday. Check the map on the
   door of the International & Graduate Office each week for
   venue details
Friday 2 October
 RBS account opening
   Royal Bank of Scotland will be on campus to open bank
   accounts. Please bring your Accommodation contract

 9am – 6pm – Chaplaincy Day Trip to Culzean Castle

 5.30pm – 7.30pm – Welcome to the Careers Service for
 International Students
   Find out how the Careers Service can help you. Level 5,
   Livingstone Tower

Friday 9 October
 5.15pm – Welcome Party, Open to all Students and Staff
   Wine reception, chocolate fountain, light snacks & live
   music (university choir), Chaplaincy Centre, 90 John Street
