Recruitment Need: Engineers, Professionals in Finance, Sales & Marketing and Supply Management Location: Across Africa The Client: Founded in 1892, GE is now the world's sixth largest company and one of the most recognized brands globally. GE is a diversified technology, media and financial services company made up of six businesses. They employ more than 327,000 people worldwide and operate in more than 100 countries. Products and Services range from aircraft engines and power generation to medical imaging and media content. GE is a truly global business. The Challenge: GE has maintained strong ties in Africa for decades as it is an area of rapid development and growth. As a large business growing across Africa, GE had a need for skilled professionals who had been exposed to international markets and would therefore bring specialist experience to assist in future development. GE Oil & Gas and GE Energy first participated at the Careers in Africa Summit in Houston in November 2007. This event proved to be a great success for GE but continued growth in African operations meant there was still an outstanding need for highly skilled individuals across all sectors of their business as they moved into 2008. Our Approach: Three Careers in Africa Recruitment Summits were scheduled for Lisbon, Brussels and London in the first half of 2008 and participation provided GE with the opportunity to recruit for various parts of their business from throughout Europe. The different Summits provided an opportunity for GE to target specific audiences: Lusophones in Lisbon, Francophones in Brussels and Anglophones in London. Due to the sheer size of GE’s operations and the vast range of opportunities on offer, Global Career Company developed a unique, branded microsite as part of the attraction activity for this event. The microsite was an individual campaign website designed specifically to promote GE’s operations, participation in the Careers in Africa Recruitment Summits and any vacancies specific to this campaign. The site was included in all promotional activity for Careers in Africa, ensuring maximum exposure. Through a global attraction campaign and a rigorous pre‐selection process, Global Career Company was able to deliver a shortlist of candidates for GE to select for interview at each event. The Outcome: The Careers in Africa Summits provided access to a broad mix of top talent in one venue thereby enabling GE to meet candidates for their diverse portfolio of companies in the space of one weekend. The Summit allowed GE to deliver a unified brand message to a highly targeted audience of job seekers, interview face to face with a pre‐screened shortlist of candidates who had expressed a desire to work with them and then make numerous offers as a result. The creation of a Microsite provided added value for GE, raising awareness of their brand and vacancies to all 2,500 candidates invited to these events. GE remains a key international sponsor of Careers in Africa Recruitment Summits for the remainder of 2008 into 2009.
