                   SAB Committee                                                                               Scope
Design Automation Standards Committee (DASC)                                 The IEEE DASC is responsible for the standardization of Design
                                                                             Automation related standards in the IEEE. It is part of the Computer
                                                                             Society of the IEEE. It also operates under the auspices of the IEEE
                                                                             Standards Association.

                                                                             The biggest center of interest in the DASC has been around language
                                                                             based design and verification standards stemming from the key HDL
                                                                             standards VHDL and Verilog. From these have flowed standards for
                                                                             timing, synthesis, math routines, and test.

                                                                             Currently the emphasis of the group is growing to embrace system level
                                                                             requirements with standards being developed in analog-mixed signal and
                                                                             other extensions driven by these needs.
Foundation for Intelligent and Physical Agents Standards                     FIPA is an IEEE Computer Society standards organization that promotes
Committee (FIPASC)2                                                          agent-based technology and the interoperability of its standards with
                                                                             other technologies.

                                                                             FIPA, the standards organization for agents and multi-agent systems was
                                                                             officially accepted by the IEEE as its eleventh standards committee on 8
                                                                             June 2005.

                                                                             FIPA was originally formed as a Swiss based organization in 1996 to
                                                                             produce software standards specifications for heterogeneous and
                                                                             interacting agents and agent based systems. Since its foundations, FIPA
                                                                             has played a crucial role in the development of agents standards and has
                                                                             promoted a number of initiatives and events that contributed to the

                                                       development and uptake of agent technology. Furthermore, many of the
                                                       ideas originated and developed in FIPA are now coming into sharp focus
                                                       in new generations of Web/Internet technology and related specifications.

                                                       In March 2005, the FIPA Board of Directors presented this opportunity to
                                                       the entire FIPA membership, who unanimously voted to join the IEEE
                                                       computer Society. Now, it is time to move standards for agents and
                                                       agent-based systems into the wider context of software development. In
                                                       short, agent technology needs to work and integrate with non-agent
                                                       technologies. To this end, the IEEE Computer Society has formally
                                                       accepted FIPA to become part of its family of standards committees.
Information Assurance Standards Committee (IASC)       The Task Force on Information Assurance (TFIA) champions a holistic
                                                       approach to development of Information Assurance technology by
                                                       asserting an Information Assurance view across numerous closely
                                                       related technologies: networking, software engineering, distributed
                                                       processing, pattern recognition, real time computing, visualization,
                                                       cryptography, simulation, man-machine interface, data engineering, mass
                                                       storage, and others. Providing a forum for open discussion that is
                                                       identifiable to workers in Information Assurance, the TFIA participates in
                                                       development of recommended practices and standards for Information
                                                       Assurance.
Learning Technology Standards Committee (LTSC)         The IEEE Learning Technology Standards Committee (LTSC) is
                                                       chartered by the IEEE Computer Society Standards Activity Board to
                                                       develop accredited technical standards, recommended practices, and
                                                       guides for learning technology.
Local Area Networks/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC,     The IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee develops Local Area
802)                                                   Network standards and Metropolitan Area Network standards. The most
                                                       widely used standards are for the Ethernet family, Token Ring, Wireless
                                                       LAN, Bridging and Virtual Bridged LANs. An individual Working Group
                                                       provides the focus for each area.
Microprocessors & Microcomputers Standards Committee   To create, maintain, and encourage the use of IEEE standards for the

Portable Applications Standards Committee (PASC)       PASC is the IEEE's Portable Application Standards Committee. It is
                                                       chartered with defining standard application service interfaces - most
                                                       notably those in the POSIX family. PASC was formerly known as the
                                                       Technical Committee on Operating Systems.
Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization –   The Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO) is an
Standards Activity Committee (SISO-SAC)                international organization dedicated to the promotion of modeling and
                                                       simulation interoperability and reuse for the benefit of a broad range of
                                                       M&S communities
Software & Systems Engineering Standards Committee     To develop and maintain a family of software and systems engineering
(S2ESC)                                                standards that is relevant, coherent, comprehensive, and effective in use.
                                                       These standards are for use by practitioners, organizations, and
                                                       educators to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their software
                                                       engineering processes, to improve communications between acquirers
                                                       and suppliers, and to improve the quality of delivered software and
                                                       systems containing software.

                                                       To develop supporting knowledge products that aid practitioners,
                                                       organizations, and educators in understanding and applying our
                                                       standards.

                                                       To support and promote a Software Engineering Body of Knowledge,
                                                       certification mechanisms for software engineering professionals, and
                                                       other products contributing to the profession of software engineering.
Storage Systems Standards Committee (SSSC)             This SSSC sponsors all Storage System standards activities within the
                                                       IEEE through the Computer Society.
                                                       These activities may include full-use and trial-use standards; guides;
                                                       recommended practices; and study groups.
Test Technology Standards Committee (TTSC)
SAB -EPEAT                                             EPEAT is a system to help purchasers in the public and private sectors
                                                       evaluate, compare and select desktop computers, notebooks and

                                            monitors based on their environmental attributes. EPEAT also provides a
                                            clear and consistent set of performance criteria for the design of
                                            products, and provides an opportunity for manufacturers to secure
                                            market recognition for efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its
                                            products.
SAB – Standard Upper Ontology               Welcome to the Standard Upper Ontology Working Group (SUO WG)
                                            website. The SUO WG is developing a Standard that will specify an
                                            upper ontology to support computer applications such as data
                                            interoperability, information search and retrieval, automated inferencing,
                                            and natural language processing.
SAB- Musical Applications Using XML         his project will develop an XML application
                                            defining a standard language for symbolic music representation.
                                            The language will be a meta-representation of music information
                                            for describing and processing said music information within a
                                            multilayered environment, for achieving integration among
                                            structural, score, MIDI, and digital sound levels of representation.
                                            Furthermore, the proposed standard should integrate music
                                            representation with already defined and accepted common standards.
                                            The standard will be accepted by any kind of software dealing
                                            with music information, e.g. score editing, OMR systems,
                                            music performance, musical databases, and composition and
                                            musicological applications.
