On the applet below, there are two polygons, the pre-image, Polygon (ABCDE), and its image, Polygon (A’B’C’D’E’). Polygon (A’B’C’D’E’) is called the image of Polygon (ABCDE) because it is an exact copy of Polygon (ABCDE) that has been translated (slid), to the left (negative) 8 units, and up (positive) 3 units (shown by the red vector). Click on the “Direction Triangle” check-box to verify this. That is, A  5,0 , the translation rule is  x  8, y  3 , then A '  5  8, 0  3 A '   3,3 Your Task (A): Step 0 - Click on the “reset” icon (upper right-hand corner), in the GeoGebra applet. Step 1 - Click on “View” in the menu bar and select “Grid”. Step 2 – Finish filling out the table by writing the coordinates for the remaining points that make up Polygon (ABCDE). The grid is in increments of 1 unit per grid line. Although you could click on the “pre-image” check-box and have the coordinates given to you, you really need to practice this yourself. Use the check-box only as a check. Step 3 – Now, apply to translation to these points and calculate the coordinates of the image, Polygon (A’B’C’D’E’), using the “image” check-box only as a check. Your Task (B): Step 0 - Click on the “reset” icon (upper right-hand corner), in the GeoGebra applet. Step 1 – Place the cursor in the middle of the pre-image, Polygon (ABCDE), then left-click and drag the polygon, placing point A at coordinate 9, 4 Step 2 - Click on “View” in the menu bar and select “Grid”. Step 3 – Finish filling out the table by writing the coordinates for the remaining points that make up Polygon (ABCDE). Although you could click on the “pre-image” check-box and have the coordinates given to you, you really need to practice this yourself. Use the check-box only as a check. Step 4 – Determine the new translation (shown with the red vector). Apply the translation to these points and calculate the coordinates of the image, Polygon (A’B’C’D’E’), using the “image” check-box only as a check.
