NOTICE TO CERTAIN VETERANS REGARDING $1,200 "RESOURCE REBATE" A law has been enacted providing Alaskans with the opportunity to receive a $1,200 "resource rebate". If you are a veteran, and applied for the 2008 dividend and were found eligible, you need not read any further. In addition to the 2008 permanent fund dividend, you will receive the $1,200 resource rebate automatically when your dividend is paid. In addition to persons who applied and were found eligible for the 2008 permanent fund dividend, there is a group of veterans who are eligible for the $1,200 resource rebate. This group of veterans includes (1) veterans who are over 65, on a low income, and receiving a pension from the Veterans Administration, and (2) non-service disabled veterans whose benefits are reduced by the receipt of new income. In recognition of the fact that many veterans in these categories may not apply for the permanent fund dividend such that they would be automatically eligible, these veterans have been given the opportunity to apply for the $1,200 resource rebate through a separate application process. If an eligible veteran, spouse, or dependent applies and the application was received by the Department of Revenue before October 1, for the $1,200 resource rebate, they will receive the $1,200 payment through a separate process established by the State of Alaska, Department of Revenue. The law also provides that veterans receiving the $1,200 resource rebate will be held harmless from any reduction in benefits on account of receiving that income by the Veterans Administration. This means that if your benefits are reduced, you will receive an additional payment from the State that will make up that reduction. Funds have already been appropriated for the purpose of making up any reductions in payments to Veterans. If you have any questions, please call the Toll-free Number: 1-800-733-8813, outside the Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau regions but still within the State of Alaska. Offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau are open 10 am-4:30 pm Monday through Friday at the following: Anchorage 616 E Street Anchorage, Alaska 99501 Phone: (907) 269-0370 Fax: (907) 269-0384 Fairbanks 1005 Cushman Street Fairbanks, Alaska 99701 Phone: (907) 451-2820 Fax: (907) 451-5142 Juneau 333 Willoughby Avenue 11th Floor State Office Building PO BOX 110461 Juneau, Alaska 99811-0461 Phone: (907) 465-2326 Fax: (907) 465-3470
