Academic Senate Faculty

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to announce the first Legislative Assembly meeting of the 2008-09 Academic Year. The
meeting will take place Thursday, November 13, from 2-4 PM, in the Charles Young Grand Salon in
Kerckhoff Hall. I encourage all Academic Senate faculty to attend.

The Legislative Assembly serves as the elected voice of the faculty. At this meeting, Executive Vice
Chancellor & Provost Scott Waugh will be updating the Assembly on the current budget situation and
taking questions from faculty. This will be an excellent opportunity for Senate Faculty to hear from our
newly appointed EVC/Provost, to ask him questions, and to convey to him your thoughts and con-
cerns.

Council on Research Chair, Professor Hans Schollhammer, will also make a presentation in regard to
the proposed restructuring of the Senate Faculty Grants Program. The Assembly will also conduct busi-
ness critical to the life of the campus. The full agenda can be accessed by clicking on this sentence.

If you are planning to attend, kindly inform Ryan Watson at rwatson@senate.ucla.edu at your earliest
convenience, but by no later than the end of the day on Tuesday, November 11th.

I look forward to seeing you on November 13th.

Sincerely,

Michael Goldstein
Chair of the Academic Senate
