Mission One—Middle East Peace
Confidential Palestine Peace Proposal
From an American Citizen to
the Leaders of Palestine
Friday, February 20, 2009
Dear Leaders of the Palestinian People,
I am an American citizen with no official involvement in the U.S. government, who is writing to
you with the purpose of initiating the creation of a new path to peace between my country and
yours. Our intention is to bring into the equation some new resources and solutions which can
make peace an easier reality to accomplish—IN A SHORT TIME PERIOD.
The Mission is about a real mission which will utilize prime time television to inspire the public
to get involved and help to solve the biggest problems we all face. One big problem we all have
is war. The intention of The Mission is to challenge ourselves to come up with creative and
powerfully effective solutions to the conflicts we are involved in.
You are on a mission—your goal is to get your people the respect and fair treatment which they
deserve. I believe your ultimate intention is peace—but you resort to drastic measures because
you have not been heard or treated fairly. The purpose of The Mission is for people like you to
be heard, so that the problems you are enduring get solved in the near future.
I believe all societal problem solving is a result of effective communication. The Mission will
facilitate understanding by creating an international television platform for people like you
to be heard.
Our goal is to bring a great deal more attention to your situation, plus consider and propose
ambitious new solutions. One new idea is to facilitate the end of the war by shifting the money
spent on war into Middle East rebuilding projects.
I would like to begin this introduction to The Mission by apologizing for America’s part in
creating the problems which you are enduring every day. My country, our leaders, have both
helped to create the wars in the Middle East and failed to find solutions—in fact, we have barely
made an effort to consider the alternatives. In my view, we Americans need to try much harder.
I am not an expert on the history of your country, but I do understand more than most Americans.
I watch the news every day and even though American TV censors the worst, I see your children
who are injured and running in the streets to escape the bombs and bullets. I see the suffering in
your country—you all are trapped with no way out—surrounded on all sides by people who do
not empathize with your hardships.
What is the price we are willing to pay for peace in the Middle East? I have asked myself how
much it would be worth to achieve this—how much would America be willing to spend to end the
wars we are in? At this time, in Iraq and Afghanistan we are spending $200 billion dollars per
year. To me this means that we should be willing to spend $200 billion in a positive way, if this
accomplishes peace and we save the cost of the war.
But I am not only motivated to contact you by my concern for your suffering—we are suffering
too in this country. We have many problems which have been created by our leaders, and by the
fact of our citizens being asleep and not in control. In the same way most of us have been tuning
out the Palestine situation, we have been ignoring what our leaders are doing about our economy,
energy, poverty, global warming, education, and many other problems which plague us. America
is going over a cliff—and disaster is looming before us, from many directions.
I am convinced that the only way to save ourselves is to help your people too. What we need is a
global shift from conflict to cooperation. But you have few options from where you sit—which
is why America—Americans must take the lead.
The purpose of this letter to you is to propose ideas about how America can take the lead—if you
believe these new ideas will establish peace in your country and you would like to participate in
their development, this will empower me to take this project to President Obama for his
consideration. I have an advisor who has the ability to get this proposal to our President.
I am confident in President Obama’s commitment to considering new paths to peace. I believe he
is flexibly minded and compassionate toward the people on both sides of the conflict. Before the
election he gave a speech on “empathy” which described exactly what this project is about.
I believe empathy has been the missing ingredient in our relations with foreign countries.
Hillary Clinton has also demonstrated her fair mindedness in analyzing conflict situations and
discussing solutions. Her book, It Takes a Village, presents a vision of the world which can be
applied to international relations. The purpose of our projects is to facilitate exactly this.
Our leaders in America will be apprised of any involvement of your group in The Mission—they
are the main peace negotiating representatives for our country—our project only aims to support
what they are already working on. The Mission is about our leaders’ missions—our goal is to add
value to their work.
Let me outline a few key aspects of The Mission for your consideration:
1. Our team believes that there are no “terrorists” in Palestine—only people who have been
attacked, deprived of their land and possessions, and locked up in what has become a
“prison camp” with no means of escape. This has been your condition for over 50 years.
2. We also have empathy for the hardships of Israel—if our team is to be effective in paving
a new path to peace in the Middle East, we cannot be perceived as taking sides. Our goal
is to identify opportunities for rapid progress which benefit all sides of the conflict. Our
intention is to be equally sympathetic about the realities of both Jews and Muslims—
and hopefully they will return the favor to us.
3. We believe that America owes the people of Palestine an apology for the fact that our
involvement over the past 50 years has made the situation in the Middle East worse—and
we have not put our money into solutions which would help both sides to facilitate peace.
4. The goal of this initiative is to offer a remedy for these problems: We believe that peace
will become a reality if we redirect the money we are spending on war, into projects
which rebuild countries devastated by war.
5. America is spending over $200 billion dollars a year on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars,
plus $500 billion yearly for our military, plus about $100 billion more for homeland
security—a total of $800 billion per year—all because we are in a state of conflict with
people we call our “enemies”. There are many other costs we can add to this total.
6. The purpose of The Mission project is to identify and create a new path for America and
the world—we can use this massive expenditure of almost a trillion dollars a year to pave
the way to peace.
7. We believe that the fastest way to peace in the Middle East is to devise solutions which are
beneficial to all sides. Here are some examples:
a. Build a number of Islands off the coast of Israel/Palestine to expand the land for the
people. Several beautiful islands have been created off Dubai. I contacted the
company which built the islands and they said that it would be possible to do the
same off the coast of Israel and Palestine. Some Israeli leaders are already backing
the idea of man-made islands. These rebuilding projects will create immediate jobs.
b. A generous monetary investment in each Palestinian family—which can be used to
start a business and will compensate for past losses due to the war.
c. A multi-billion dollar rebuilding package for Palestine to reverse the impact of
recent and past military engagements.
There have already been a number of peace proposals which contain details about land being
returned to the control of the Palestinian people. The overall peace process is already being
negotiated by your leaders, our leaders in America, and groups like the President Jimmy Carter
Center.
The Mission is about empowering these efforts by adding resources which can accelerate the
process of establishing a firmly rooted peace in the region.
A key aspect of the above proposal is a reality TV show called “The Mission”. To achieve our
aims we would like to launch this show and make the people of Palestine and rebuilding your
communities the focus for the first episodes.

Mission One—Middle East Peace
The first question that may come to your mind as you read this proposal is, who is Chris Bennett
and how can he hope to accomplish the above?
Who I am is a concerned citizen of the United States of America. As a citizen I have the right,
indeed the duty, to put forth solutions to the problems which afflict our country—and my input
must be considered. This is the essence of “democracy” which has been absent to a significant
degree, but which we intend to bring back to America. President Obama has said, over and over,
that he needs the input of the American people—his commitment is that we all count.
If your group decides to support further consideration of this peace proposal, this will give me the
power to get it delivered to President Obama. What I am certain of is that he is highly motivated
to find a solution to the wars in the Middle East, and to our own many problems—which
President Obama has called “emergencies”.
I feel certain that President Obama and his advisors, and the American people, will all agree that
America and the world’s economic crisis will be most effectively solved if we quickly end the
wars we are now trapped in.
I am convinced that America can only solve our economic problems if we utilize our wealth
to aid every other country in crisis. Economists agree that America’s economy is now
connected to all others around the world—as these countries crash too, our problems worsen.
This brings us to the biggest solution—which you have the power to help us realize:
A Plan for World Peace—A Solution to the Worldwide Economic Crisis
The Mission will be launched by a team of private American citizens—joining forces with a team
of Palestinian leaders (your group). We would like to join forces with you for The Mission.
The Mission is about a real mission—a mission in reality—we will be using television to assist in
the creation of this mission.
The purpose of The Mission is to aid people in crisis by redirecting resources now used for war,
into solutions like food, housing, farms, transportation, water, etc.
As you know from personal experience, when people are hungry, when children are hungry, or
when they are living in a state of constant warfare, a remedy is needed now! As leaders in your
country, you see the suffering around you and then seek remedies which will work fast. I believe
this is why you fire rockets and arrange for soldiers to blow themselves up—your goal is to get
the world’s attention—to apply pressure to your enemies so they seek a more positive solution.
The purpose of our project is to consider and work to implement radical remedies which
can turn the tide of events.
All around the world there are people suffering a great deal—in America too. 30% of Americans
do not have health care, because we waste a trillion dollars on war every year and so we can’t
afford health care for everyone. 30% of our children do not graduate from high school—they fail
because we do not spend enough money on our children.
One in nine young black Americans is in prison—our jails are dangerous, violent, and abusive.
Most of our leaders are against torturing “enemy combatants” (I am completely against all forms
of torture)—but they ignore the fact that several million Americans are locked up in terrible,
abusive prisons.
Single mothers all across America do not have child care in their communities, plus many get
paid too little so they are going hungry. This is a small fraction of our ailments.
In comparison there are many other countries where things are much worse than America—
Palestine, Pakistan, Myanmar, Mexico, Columbia, Indonesia, India, North Korea, Afghanistan,
Iraq, and the continent of Africa—we have a long list of countries in crisis.
Who will save the day for them and us?
The Mission—A Plan for World Peace
Here is the proposal: first we achieve peace in Palestine/Israel. Then our team (which includes
you) will work on peace in Iraq, Afghanistan, and with Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda.
America’s peace offer to the people we are in conflict with is this: if together we can end all
our wars in the Middle East, America will redirect half of the $200 billion we are spending per
year on the war in Iraq, into 100 poverty eradication projects around the world—for the next
ten years. These 100 projects will become part of The Mission reality TV show. 50 will be in
the USA and 50 in foreign countries. This would lead to people around the world being eternally
grateful to you for helping implementing this peace plan.
Many of the above billion dollar mission projects will be in Muslim countries—I believe that the
only way for America to dramatically and rapidly shift our highly negative relationship with
Muslims around the world, into the positive, is with ambitious, impactful, and creative solutions.
I also believe that we must involve leaders like you—we need your help!
We are launching a reality TV show called The Mission in America, but our goal is to foster the
launch of Mission TV shows in every country worldwide. I invite your group to consider
creating your own Mission Reality show in Palestine, in partnership with us. Our goal will be
to fund your project too—providing camera equipment, building a production facility, camera
operators, etc.
A Palestine Mission TV Show would feature your group as it works to implement solutions to
current problems and lead the rebuilding process. You are already doing the work—you have a
network of people who get food and other resources to your citizens in need.

A New Understanding of the Meaning of “Urgency”
I believe it is “urgency” which drives your people to kill to accomplish their goals. You see the
suffering of your people—men, women, and children—and you respond by seeking a remedy.
You have tried talking—negotiating, but this has not helped. From my position, the best way I
can be helpful is to propose better solutions than the one’s you have at hand.
I too am seeking alternatives, for your people of course, but for the citizens of my country too—
some who I personally know. Many of our leaders in the USA do not understand the urgency
of their own citizens’ needs. If you watch the news from America this month, you will see them
debating about how to rescue our economy. They are devising a trillion dollar solution—but very
little of the money will be spent to help the people here who are in desperate need—in every
community. We aim to remedy this problem with The Mission.
Our leaders all have health care for themselves, so many can’t understand that for a third of us—
100 million—not having health care is an emergency—this is a problem which must be fixed
now. I also understand the urgency of your problems. We want to show the American people the
human side of everything we are discussing here so they can get a much clearer picture of the
facts—the realities which others are enduring. I see comprehension as the path to change.
Our leaders all have generous salaries, so some don’t understand that for a single mother getting
paid America’s minimum wage (about $6 per hour), she and the kids are going to go hungry some
days—and they may be homeless. Some single mothers have to turn to prostitution to feed their
children. In other cases, the kids are taken away from the mother and put up for adoption.
Our leaders have never been in prison, and their friends are not in jail either, so there isn’t a rush
to end the violence there, or to treat the problem in other ways—education, or medical care for
people with alcohol or illegal drug issues. Too many people with problems go to prison—violent
jails with limited or no education. Rape or other forms of abuse is common there. Not one of our
leaders is talking about this.
I am helping one single mother who was on a plane and got upset with the stewardess—she was
punished with three months in jail and her kids were taken from her—they are being adopted by a
new family, against her will. Our system is out of control. Another single mother I am helping
could not afford car insurance, but she drove anyway, so the police came to arrest her. Her
daughter would have been placed with strangers who might have abused her.
These are just a few examples of how our leaders in America are out of touch with the needs of
the people. We feel that we are not being heard—just like you feel you are not being heard by us,
or by the world. We all need effective solutions fast.
Our goal is to launch The Mission Reality TV Show as a remedy to these problems—we need our
leaders to see the urgency of our unmet needs, and then use the show to implement solutions. In
Mission One we could start by delivering millions of dollars of resources to the people of
Palestine. These solutions will come fast—our goal will be to make it happen in a short time.
Can you see it? We want to show people the urgency by rushing in with solutions.
This is an American citizen initiative which aims to foster a rapid peace in the Middle East.
Our leaders will have to empower us to do this—this is the essence of democracy—
everybody counts.
This is “citizen diplomacy”—ordinary citizens reaching out to people across the world to
foster a new relationship with our country.
Your role is crucial here—because as this project has developed it has become apparent to me that
my greatest obstacle is “lethargy”. Some people just don’t want to try anything new—no matter
how bad the problems are. I have been seeking a special magic—an angle—or leverage. An
opportunity which is so good, so compelling that people take notice and take action.
Economic Benefits
A Middle East at peace will attract millions of tourists from all around the world—the “peace
islands” and new homes owned by Palestinians will become very valuable sources of income.
We all know about the value of the oil under the sand, but of much greater worth is the culture,
the history, and the people themselves. I wouldn’t be surprised if more income could come from
tourism to a Middle East at peace than all the oil under the earth.
I believe that peace in your country can become the path to peace in other parts of the world. As I
described above, if our collaborative effort is successful at creating a secure peace in your country
then you will be able to help us with negotiating peace in other regions.
Confidential Nature of This Proposal
This proposal is intended to be a confidential communication for your consideration only.
I propose that this document and our future correspondence be read by a small number of close
associates only. Some of the opinions expressed here would not be positively interpreted by
individuals who have mischaracterized your people, your religion, and the war in your country.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Perhaps we can have a series of discussions through the
internet, by phone, and in person.

Chris Bennett
