             Men’s Novice Rowing Club Win First Medals at Monmouth!

The captain of the men‟s novice VIII+ Boat, Adam Kenny announced the clubs success as their first
medals were won at Monmouth Winter Head of the River race on 13 Dec 2009. Adam adds
“Hopefully the first of many for the novice men!”

The infamous Head of the River Race is held twice each year on the River Wye with the Autumn
Head held at the end of September and The Winter Head held mid December, both typically 2250m in

The Senior Women won the Intermediate3 coxed four (cox Harriet Marsh, stroke Hannah Lawton, 3
seat Kim Headley, 2 seat Dominique Crosswood, bow Laura Kennedy). They raced the course twice,
also posting a „Silver‟ in the Intermediate3 double sculls (Dominique and Kim) and ranking fifth in the
Intermediate3 single sculls (Hannah).

The Novice Women came Silver and Bronze in the Novice 8+'s with just 6 seconds between them
showing that all 16 athletes have what it takes to perform at a high level. Novice coach Gess
Boddington was very pleased and looking forward to selecting a top 8+ to represent UWE at Varsity
and BUCS in May.

Head Women's Coach Chantelle Hanley added “the day was a success for UWE rowing all around
and a credit to the hard work the athletes and coaches have done in the first term... UWEBC
President Sam Hayes was on hand to congratulate all the crews”.
